Sunday Music: Author of Liberty

It’s a beautiful thing to consider the author of our liberty, our Creator. As much as some want to try, God can’t be removed from the founding of America. We are always at our best when we not only don’t try to silence those who fear God, but let them lead, especially during trying times. I think of great examples like Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. who all spoke of their reverence for God and the Declaration of Independence as they faced hardships that most of us can only imagine. One of the greatest things about America is that even those who have decided to reject God still got to enjoy the blessings God bestowed upon America partly because of the God-fearing men who have come before us and still want to lead us. Maybe instead of trying to purge God and his followers from society, we could invite them to have a role in restoring some sense of unity. Just a thought.

Sweet land of liberty,

Land of the pilgrims' pride,

Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,

And ring from all the trees

Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
