Lincoln's Reply to Manchester, England

During the American Civil War, many expected the cotton mill workers of Manchester, England, to side with the Confederacy so the cotton trade could resume. Instead, they formed a Union and Emancipation Society on December 31, 1862, and sent an address to Abraham Lincoln praising the Emancipation Proclamation that he would sign the next day. A few weeks later, he responded to their message.
