How seam allowances affect block size in rag quilting

Your seam allowance can quickly shrink your rag quilt block size because it is taken off of both sides, not just one side. It also affects your rag depth.Show more

Your seam allowance effectively doubles because it is on both sides. So, that means
1/2" seam allowance = subtract 1" from your finished block size (8" square becomes 7")
1" seam allowance = subtract 2" from your finished block size (8" square becomes 6")
