Easy Sew Bible Cover
This Bible cover is easy to sew and can be adapted to any book size.
When you measure your open Bible, add 2” to each measurement.
Cut two pieces for the main body and lining.
Cut two pocket pieces the height of the Bible times double the desired pocket depth.
Cut two handle straps approx 3” x 12”. (Handles can be omitted if you just want a basic cover.)
If you want to use more than a scant 1/4” top stitching, adjust your 1/2” margin on the initial stitching smaller by the amount you wish to add to the final scant 1/4” allowance.
The stitch guide I'm using is the Stick 'n Stitch from Clover. It runs about $10 depending on what store you shop with.

Fabric Design Basics - Backgrounds Change the Feel of Your Design
This video goes over some examples of how background can change the overall feel of your fabric (and other seamless pattern) designs. In upcoming videos we'll be covering how to create these backgrounds but it is important you see some of the concepts behind the choice to use a plain white background, color, or texture and the differences it creates in your designs first.

Creating a Scattered Seamless Pattern - Grid Method
One of the most common surface design and fabric design questions I see is how to get a scattered effect. A great place to start is to use a grid. I'm using Affinity Photo for this tutorial but I'm avoiding the affine tool that lets you wrap around the edges to show how the grid method can work for any design software, even if it does not have a tool for wrapping around the edges of your design.

Easy Sew Tube Headband - no stretch stitch needed
These easy sew tube style headbands are super fast and easy to make. Because we'll be sewing only on the non-stretch portion of the fabric you can use a regular straight stitch. No stretch stitch required.
You need a 2 way stretch knit fabric that cuts clean on the edge (this is a raw edge project). I like 5" widths but you can make them in 4", 3", or even bigger like 12" if you like to wear head cloth style. They can be worn folded out or folded skinny so they are very versatile. Most adults will need a 20" length but you can easily adjust that to fit your head.
I'm using the performance knit fabric from My Fabric Designs (myfabricdesigns.com). It comes in 60" widths, is 3.83 oz per yard, 2 way 25% stretch, and costs (as of time of this posting) $25 per yard. Printed with your own design or choose from thousands of designs from independent artists (who are paid a commission from every sale).

How seam allowances affect block size in rag quilting
Your seam allowance can quickly shrink your rag quilt block size because it is taken off of both sides, not just one side. It also affects your rag depth.
Your seam allowance effectively doubles because it is on both sides. So, that means
1/2" seam allowance = subtract 1" from your finished block size (8" square becomes 7")
1" seam allowance = subtract 2" from your finished block size (8" square becomes 6")

Cutting squares using a rotary cutter and straight edge
Just a quick demo of cutting squares using folded fabric with your rotary cutter and straight edge. The straight edge I'm using is the straight part of a drywall Tsquare I got at a local hardware store. The thickness of it lets my rotary cutter ride along the edge without hopping over and endangering my fingers.

How Chain Stitching Works in Sewing - Sewing Tutorial
In rag quilting, and regular sewing, there are times you have a lot of the same pieces to sew. Chain stitching is a method where you sew each piece one after the other without cutting the thread between each one. This speeds up the process and reduces thread waste.

Sewing the X on a rag quilt sandwich
We get a lot of questions about sewing the X on rag quilt blocks (sandwiches). This video is of sewing the second line of the X on your squares. The first line is easy for many but the second line seems to scare everyone about keeping the fabric straight and not bunching up. It really isn't that hard, you just have to smooth the fabric as you go, as we demonstrate in the video.
