Rush was never a band I was particularly fond of when I was a young punk rocker type, but now that I'm older, I've let go of a lot of my silly prejudices and decided to give them a listen. Having now spent many hours listening to their discography recently, I had to admit that Rush's sense of musicality and groove is unique and quite intriguing, as well as challenging to play properly.

So here is my first attempt to tackle one of their numbers. ANTHEM was first recorded for Rush's second LP FLY BY NIGHT, which was also the debut album for drummer Neil Peart, who had a major influence on the band's direction. I dedicate this video to my friend and bassist Rich Paddock, who got me to learn "Freewill" when I was in a band with him, and who cites Geddy Lee as a major influence.
