Boreas Pass Road Winter Timelapse

The Boreas Pass Road is the gateway to winter back country access on the south side of Breckenridge Colorado. This road usually closes on the first Monday of November to vehicle traffic and sees a lot of recreational traffic during the winter months.Show more

The Boreas Pass road started as a trail for miners in the 1860's in their relentless pursuit of gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. By 1866 it was widened for wagons and stage coaches. In 1882 the Denver, South Park, and Pacific Railroad started laying narrow gauge railroad tracks from Como to the town of Breckenridge and later was extended to Leadville. The ghost towns of Boreas and Dyersville can be found on the pass or near the pass 6 miles up the road.

Snow Showing, Hiking, Cross Country Skiing and Back Country skiing are the main activities accessible from a smaller parking lot just north of the gate. Fat Biking can also be done on the road up to Bakers Tank and on the Bakers Tank trail when conditions are right. The road passed bakers tank is not groomed by sled and sees only a modest amount of foot traffic.

The views of the Breckenridge Ski Resort and the 10 Mile range reward everyone who participates in activities on this road.
