Christ calls us to be peacemakers, and we must understand what this means with great precision. So often we think that being a peacemaker means we neither experience confrontation or engage in any conflict at all. Regretfully, I must inform you that this is not being a peacemaker, but is in fact being lukewarm. The question of being a peacemaker is not the question of whether or not to stand and fight, but the question of why one rises to the occasion of battle. Throughout the course of Scripture, God has taught us that neither goodness nor order can be found without conquering the chaos. Neither salvation nor life eternal were won without suffering on the cross, and even the goodness of God’s creation could not be spoken into place without overcoming the deep void of Genesis 1:2. Jude challenges the faithful to contend for the Gospel, for evil will consume if it is not held back. (Church of the Nazarene Podcast)
