Ruby Tuesday (Rolling Stones, The, 1967). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2025-11-21. "Keeping the Oldies & Classics Alive"

"Ruby Tuesday," written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, was the Rolling Stone's 14th top 40 hit and their 4th no. 1 hit rising to the top position in 1967 (Whitburn, 2013). "Richards encountered the 'self-assured' 17-year-old model Linda Keith. Linda . . . made a beeline for the guitarist. The pair fell, as Keith described, 'totally, absolutely in love,' and were an item for the next two years, before their relationship began to unravel . . . 'The thing about being a songwriter is, even if you’ve been f**ked over, you can find consolation in writing about it, and pour it out,' he said. 'Basically, Linda is ‘Ruby Tuesday’” (S. Harper, udiscovermusic, Jan. 6, 2025). Keith Richards was the lyricist for the song "with contributions from Brian Jones, but in keeping with Stones tradition, it was credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards" (songfacts, 2025).

Lyrics:

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes

Goodbye, RubyTuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...

Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothings gained
And nothings lost
At such a cost

There's no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind.
Ain't life unkind?

Goodbye, RubyTuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you
