🍚 White rice or brown rice? It’s not as simple as “whole grains are always better.”

When it comes to rice, there are a few important things to consider:

👉 Arsenic – White rice naturally has less, since much of it is removed with the bran during processing. This can make it a safer everyday choice, especially for little ones who eat rice often.

👉 Fiber – Fiber is important, but more isn’t always better. Too much can cause bloating, discomfort, or even keep your body from absorbing nutrients well. Finding that “just right” amount is key... and sometimes mixing white and brown rice in your daily diet helps keep things balanced.

👉 Blood sugar – Brown rice, when prepared properly, contains fiber that slows down the release of glucose into the bloodstream. For those managing diabetes or insulin sensitivity, this slower rise in blood sugar could make brown rice the better fit.

Many years ago, I would’ve said, “Always go with brown rice!” But I’ve learned that it's really about finding what works best for your body and your family.

Sometimes that means white rice, sometimes brown, and sometimes a mix of both!
