Gordie Howe International Bridge Nearing Completion at U.S.-Canada Border
The Gordie Howe International Bridge is getting closer to completion, with opening set for this fall for the new crossing over the Detroit River between the United States and Canada
The final tower crane on the American side is set to be taken down by the end of this week, a milestone in the multi-year construction of the bridge
Construction on the crossing first began in 2018. The bridge’s design includes the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America
The bridge will complement existing border crossings in the area at the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Unlike the current crossings, the Gordie Howe bridge will include a multi-use path offering toll-free access to pedestrians and bicyclists, the first continuous, non-special event crossing of its kind over the Detroit River
