The False Narrative of “Relief” After Abortion: What They Don’t Want You to Know

In the dominant progressive narrative, one of the most repeated claims is that most women feel “relief” after having an abortion. This idea is largely propped up by the controversial “Turnaway Study,” heavily promoted by pro-abortion organizations. But the truth, which many media outlets and left-wing politicians refuse to acknowledge, is that abortion, far from being a liberating experience, leaves deep emotional, psychological, and even physical scars on thousands of women.

The Turnaway Study claimed that 95% of women did not regret their abortions. But here’s the detail they don’t tell you: out of 1,000 women who initially enrolled in the study, only 150 completed it. That means 85% dropped out. Why? Perhaps because revisiting their experience was too painful. Perhaps because they did suffer serious psychological harm and chose silence. The fact is, this is an extremely limited and ideologically driven sample, funded by groups with a clear agenda.

In contrast, studies with larger sample sizes and no ideological bias tell a different story. For instance, California’s Medicaid system analyzed over 200,000 women. The results were disturbing: women who had abortions were 150% more likely to commit suicide than those who carried their pregnancies to term. This is not minor data. This is a red flag that the abortion industry prefers to ignore.

The same is true in Finland, where two separate studies found that women who had abortions were significantly more likely to die by suicide than those who didn’t. These findings, hidden by mainstream media, paint a picture that radical feminist groups refuse to admit: abortion causes wounds — some invisible, but lasting.

Of course, some women publicly say they don’t regret their abortions. And those voices are echoed by Hollywood and leftist outlets. But they don’t speak for everyone. Many women suffer in silence. Some endure anxiety, insomnia, post-traumatic stress, or deep emotional emptiness. These stories are often censored because they don’t serve the progressive narrative.

The culture of death has made denial its dogma. And part of that dogma is to suppress the real consequences of abortion for women. The truth is, no medical procedure that ends a human life can be called “healthcare” or generate true peace. Women deserve to know the truth. They deserve to hear all the effects — not just the politically convenient ones — before making a decision that could forever change their lives.

Abortion does not empower. It silences. Abortion doesn’t bring relief. It brings harm. And justice begins with acknowledging the damage that so many want to hide.
