Unconditional Acceptance Needed

Sometimes we need to take some time out from this world.. I know I do. That is why I play golf. I get to play the game I have enjoyed since a child, a game that has multitudes of good memories attached to it. I don’t have to “be anything” I can just swing, hit the ball and play a game that challenges me, a game that I love. Playing golf for me, it is a time of unconditional freedom where I can just enjoy being apart from the conditions that I find such a big part of my world at times. Being constantly pounded by the conditions of others gives me a headache.

Relationships that are bound up by conditional love cause so much stress in our lives. It is like walking on eggshells. This is why I love golf. I am not dictated by others according to my skill level or how I play the game of golf, this kind of enjoyment of playing golf is because my skill level, it is unconditional. I don’t have to be a professional to play this golf course. In life, there a so many places where conditions are put on us. We are not accepted unconditionally. We find these times more frequent in this life season where we hear conditions like this: Either you do this like this, or you can’t do that! Either you do it this way, or I will cancel you! Either you do this or you don’t belong here with us. Have you heard these kind of things? It seems there are conditions put on everything lately: “You have to speak like this, you have to say these words, you have to dress like this, you have to look like this, or you can’t do or be what God created you to do and be. We are so micromanaged by the preconceived ideas and expectations of others in times such as these.

Conditions really hurt us and our relationships. Like hearing things that sound like this: “You can’t be in relationship with me because I don’t like the way you do this or do that. Either you do things the way I want you to do it, or the way I feel most comfortable with, or you can’t be a part of my life. This strips the God given individuality from people, making them conform to someone else’s narcissistic demands. We were made to value each other, value each other’s individuality, and have uncommon unity with others, because we all were designed so differently, uniquely shaped and specially made by God. Your golf game may be different than mine, so should you put conditions on me, because I don’t play up to the level you do? Think about it. In life we do this. We all have preconceived ideas about the way we “think” life should roll and we tend to place conditions on others that mirror our shape, our design, instead of accepting each other unconditionally. We are all different for a reason, a good God purpose.

Some us may be able to play golf and others may not like playing golf, it is too frustrating for them. But when we start saying: If you don’t do this my way, then I am cancelling you from my life. You have to play my way or you don’t get to play at all. This is the “cancel culture” we have been living in this season of our lives. We are all different, unique and special and when we put conditions on each other, it takes away from our unity, and it just hurts everyone involved.

I don’t have to play well in order to hit the course and play a round of golf. I can be the golfer that I am, at the talent that I have, and still get to play the course. In life it is not that way at times where people are putting conditions on other people, and that is sad that we have put so many conditions on people that they can’t be the design, shape and personality God has made them to be. I hope we would learn as God’s people to love each other unconditionally, as Jesus Christ loved us in that way, so faithfully. God bless ya, Heart to Heart.
