The Real Cue To Save Your Back

"Straighten your back" is a good tip if someone really understands what that means. But after teaching a proper, postural, straight back, hip hinge to WAY too many people I've found most people don't really get it until they feel it. This tip works way better and helps them feel it quicker. The lumbar spine is the lower back and most likely to get injured during lifting. To properly brace the lower back, focus on tilting your butt up towards the ceiling as you descend aka anterior pelvic tilt. This will straighten the low back by purely focusing on the hip angle. The thoracic (mid) and cervical (upper) spine should be straight as well of course. And thinking about having a tall chest helps those areas of the back stay straighter.
