READING THE BIBLE - 1st Kings Chapter 2 - Know What You're Agreeing to Do

We just finished 1st Kings Chapter 2. The main point I got from this chapter is that you need to know what you agree to do when you decide to do something. Make sure you understand the agreement before you say “ask and I will . . .” Solomon said he wouldn’t refuse his mother before he knew what she would even ask for. His mother asked him to agree that his brother could marry a particular woman. I think Solomon and Adonijah both loved the same woman because after his mother told him what she wanted him to do, Solomon said to his mother, “Ask my mother for I will not refuse you.” So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as a wife.” King Solomon essentially responded to his mother saying, you might as well ask that I give him my entire kingdom.
So, the lesson I learned is to make sure you understand what you’re agreeing too.
