Prophecy Simplified: Seals, Tribulation and the Second Coming! Part 1

In this video, we begin to unpack the significance of the last 3 seals. Here, we focus on the 5th seal... The voices crying out under the alter, cries for 'How long?' , and what happens to the ones that stood for the truth throughout history.

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.” Revelation 6:9-11

Once again, John is provided a graphic glimpse into the martyred voices that will come after him.

What is an alter? In the Old and New Testament, an alter is a physical symbol of sacrifice. “ An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you.” Exodus 20:24

And the Word of God is the gospel of Jesus Christ. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

“So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.” 2 Timothy 1:8

Here, John hears those cries by the ones that sacrificed their lives to spread the gospel truth – the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Their cry was not a literal call, but in the ears of God it was heard. This cry is not only a representation of the persecuted ones throughout history; from early Christians, all the way to the Reformers, but also speaks to us now… “How long?”

These martyrs that carried the true word of God throughout history endured to the end. Endured tribulation, persecution, torture, and eventually death.

The white robes of righteousness represent their stead-fast faith when they were alive. “These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Revelation 7:14

The reference to ‘rest for a little season’ speaks of they that can finally ‘rest’ until Jesus comes again. “You will rest” Daniel 12:13 and “Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.” (Isaiah 57:2)

Even though more persecutions are predicted to keep happening, their righteousness is seen by God. He acknowledges their sacrifice, and when Christ returns, He will take them home and clothe them in His purity.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

When we move to the last two seals, we will get a glimpse into the future! The last-day events will begin to unravel, Christ will reveal how He is coming back…
