Avowed Falls Short - Terrible Sales for a Well Received Game. What's Going On Here?

Avowed player numbers and sales estimates are in on Steam. So far the player stats are looking bad, but overall user reviews are positive.

Extrapolating the sales estimates out, it appears the game is far from making it's money back. When will AAA figure out that these massive budget games need a massive audience appeal?
