Summary:
Many of us know someone who has committed suicide, or we may know a family who had a member commit suicide. It is one of the saddest tragedies to hear about, and the numbers of these senseless deaths are on the rise. Mental illness that can lead to suicide is a significant public health issue, and the United States has one of the highest rates of suicide among wealthy nations! Many Christians wonder if suicide is an unforgivable sin. Let’s examine the Scriptures.

Takeaway:
There are any number of reasons why a person may take their own life, not the least of which could be chemical imbalance or drug-induced ideation over which they have no visible control. These are people who desperately need our help to get into therapy or be weaned off of SSRIs that may be negatively impacting them. These drugs help some, but many are made worse. If they have a testimony of salvation, they are saved eternally based on what Christ did, not on what they do. Do not guilt yourself or another survivor that a person who commits suicide cannot be forgiven. If they are in Christ, they are already forgiven. Let us take comfort in this truth and focus on helping those who struggle with thoughts of suicide.
