This adorable Australian sea lion is not ready to wake up yet. He seems so happy in his element here in this video! The sea lion stretches his neck out to absorb the warmth of the sun, and he then collapses onto the warm bed of sand underneath him. Sea lions are opportunistic creatures. Some say they are lazy types of animals, but people do not seem to mind this too much since it provides some especially cute Kodak moments such as this one. They will eat whatever they come across, both on land and in the sea.
These are also very territorial animals in general.

This sea lion in particular seems like he has established his territory fairly well, and he seems very confident that no one or nothing is going to show up to bother him as he enjoys his time in the sun. Just as many other species do, sea lions spend much of their day bathing in the sun. The only time that we see these animals get aggressive would be when they are defending their territory. This is mainly between males during mating season. There is a natural hierarchy in these sea lion colonies, which are the positions that the males will fight each other for. They do not necessarily have strict territorial perimeters and such is that nature, but they are fighting for the right to breed with particular females.

The sea lion in this video does not seem like he is all that concerned about any of these different activities at this moment in time apparently. Is there anything cuter than when animals can be observed in their natural habitat with actions that seem to be what we would consider “lazy”? Obviously, humans slack from the “norm” quite a bit, and we can all be a bit lazy at times. However, animals are not ones that most readily assume have aspects of laziness to their personalities. This makes for some very interesting and humorous moments when humans are able to observe animals being this way.

Most do not know, however, that some sea lion populations are actually in danger. The Australian sea lion populations have been on a decline for many years now. This is due to several reasons, but there just seems to be a high mortality rate. There are also breeding rituals and traditional actions that take much longer than other species, which some people attribute also to the slow but steady decline of this species.

These beautiful creatures also have enemies on both land and sea. They are found in large numbers most of the time, and these larger groups can help defend individuals against many different threats. Poaching was once an issue for sea lions, but thankfully, there are laws that have been put in place to stop these absurd practices. These are such beautiful creatures with quite adorable personalities, so it is hard to imagine that anyone would ever want to do anything to harm them and not let them just exist and be beautiful!
