  • My former father-in-law (RIP) was stationed at the US Coast Guard base located in Baffin Island at the end of WWII. Baffin Island is technically part of Canada but it’s right across from Greenland. The USCG base there protected the waters around Greenland. He always said it was so cold there!

  • I was in Greenland from October 1975 to October 1976. About 75 miles north of Thule AFB, and 5 miles from the base of the ice cap, which rises to a height of over 10,000 feet. On a steep hill called Pitsonaluke Mountain ("P" Mountain, for short). Much farther north of where this guy is. I was a Comm Tech contractor maintaining a multi-channel UHF Tropo shot to Newfoundland, carrying voice and data for J-Site (the world's first over the horizon radar that kept an eye on the Soviet nukes) ... I had experiences with the weather, the Inuit Eskimos, the Danes, the Ice Cap, and just the weirdness of the planet that far north, that one has to be there to understand. Truly felt like being on a different planet.

  • Great fun history lesson. Do more of this! Playing it several times to let it sink in and learn and remember…
