"A Must To Avoid," written by P. F. Sloan, was Herman's Hermits' 7th consecutive top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart landing at the no. 8 position in 1965 (Whitburn, 2013). Produced by Mickie Most and is found on the group's "Hold On" LP, which was released in 1966 (discogs, 2024). Peter Noone told songfacts about how the band came to record "A Must To Avoid." "We were all at the Beverly Hilton Hotel . . . Historically that's where all the bands would play for years and years, and we were all there. People would come over. P.F. Sloan came over and every song he played, Mickie Most said, 'We'll have that one, we'll have that one.' . . . Every single song he played for us that day we recorded. Actually we recorded them all the same day we went to Capitol Studios. It was just a full-on rock and roll band experience. He was playing guitar and the Hermits were in top form playing "Hold On" and "Must to Avoid" and stuff. They were pretty great" (R. Catlin, songfacts, Dec. 7, 2016).
