Jeff Smith
Jeff Smith, a representative of MOVCAC (formerly the Marietta 9-12 Project), said his group has been working to have certain books his group consider to be obscene removed from the Parkersburg and Wood County Public Library to no avail. These books sometimes feature depictions of sexual acts. One book that was challenged was “Let’s Talk About It: The Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human.”

“This was on the second level in the basement with ‘Teens’ this big above it,'” Smith said, demonstrating how big the sign was. “This is being marketed to teens and kids. We can call them teens, but they’re under 18. That book was challenged, but it met the criteria of the library.”

Jeff discovered disturbing content accessible to children and took action. However, his advocacy has been met with resistance, including defamatory narratives fueled by local leaders and police, aimed at discrediting his group. Despite these challenges, Jeff continues to fight for transparency, accountability, and the protection of children’s innocence.

However, local advocates were quickly met resistance from local leadership and police, who sought to protect their reputations by smearing the group’s motives. Instead of addressing the problem, these officials chose to defame concerned parents, portraying them as extremists. Despite this complicity, the group continues to fight for a safer future for children.
