Childish Things: Growing Beyond Immature Spiritual Gifts to True Christian Maturity

Summary:
While many will reject this idea, childishness is associated with spiritual gifts. This childishness was demonstrated at the Corinthian church, and Paul had to write letters to correct this behavior. Oddly, so many gift-based denominations and churches pattern themselves after the example of a carnal church in the Bible. To their credit, they see and seem to understand the power in the spiritual realm that many churches ignore, but they misapply it immaturely. Let’s see if we can set the record straight about spiritual gifts.

Takeaway:
Many charlatans and false prophets work in the church today, deceiving and misleading the saints. They would ensnare you in a trap of desiring spiritual gifts, namely tongues, to have power over you and keep you in their control. There is a more excellent way, but it requires charity to desire God’s Word more than the pride of having gifts. As the Hebrew author says, Let us go on unto perfection and become grown adults in Christ. There is work to do that requires spiritual maturity and self-sacrificing love.
