A Full Glass In All Circumstances

We all have the option to look at our circumstances from the perspective of a glass half full or a glass half empty. But there is actually a third option and that is a glass completely full and even overflowing.

Apostle Paul had this third perspective which allowed him to be content in all circumstances as we read in Philippians 4:11-12

"[11] ...I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. [12] I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."

How could Paul have this perspective of contentment at all times? What is this secret that he learned? Paul learned that no matter how empty or how full his glass was in his physical life, Christ filled in the empty space. Where there was any lack, Christ provided what was needed to persevere and where there was overflowing plenty, Christ was the source.

Paul confirms this in verse 13 where he tells us...

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

With Christ, we lack nothing in any circumstance because He is our great Shepherd. David shared this at the very beginning of Psalm 23 where he wrote, "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing." And in verse 5, David writes, "my cup overflows".

With Christ, we have strength, we lack nothing and our cup overflows in all circumstances. This is because Christ loves us. He loved us so much that he gave his life for us so we could be with him for eternity. Since he gave up His own life for us, we can be confident that he will also provide all we need to persevere and overcome in all circumstances.

So from now on, let us always look at our glass as ...not half empty, nor half full... but rather as completely full and overflowing with the love and power of Christ who provides all we need in every circumstance.
