Long before December 25 was associated with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, winter celebrations have been observed in various ways around the world. Her testimony is very similar to other former nuns like Florence Cleland, Mabel Gladenstein McClish, Eva Moss, Edith O’Gorman (Trials and Persecutions of Miss Edith O’Gorman), her friend Nilah Rutledge, Nellie Fortune, Maria Monk, Barbara Ubryk (The Convent Horror), Sister Justina (The Martyr in Black The Life Story of Sister Justina). Sister Charlotte’s testimony corroborates those made by former monks and priests like Chiniquy (The Priest, the Woman and the Confessional), Fresenborg (Thirty Years in Hell) and Hogan (Auricular Confession and Popish Nunneries).
