If eat no carbs from plants & eat 2.5g protein per kg body
weight, can still be in ketosis, but ketones will be higher if
eating 1.5g protein...even up to 3g per kg body weight
-if IR, this will hold ketones down
-exercise vigorously? ketones rise
Dr Phinney's 1983 study of cyclists: gave 1.5g protein in
meat only diet: their ketones averaged 2.5 mmol
Study, weight loss for 12 women: half were sedentary;
half exercised, over 5 week study...
-first week very low [700 calories] with 30g carbs/day
-gradually increased modest exercise from 0 to 120 min/day
-2 hours exercise burned 700 cal/day
Hypothesis: exercise counters the reduced metabolic rate
from reduced calorie intake
Sedentary group : 10% decrease in metabolic rate
-avg loss of 6kg
Exercising group: 25% metabolic rate down
-no difference in weight loss
