Depression Tip #26: Stress!💙

Stress is intimately linked with depression. It can be a trigger for depression and it can make depression worse. The interesting thing about stress is that a stressor is only seen as stressful and causes distress if we don't think we can cope with it.💙

If we do think we can cope with a stressor and it can be the same thing, then we can feel energized and motivated and challenged. The stressor hasn't changed, but how we relate to it has changed. Whether we feel we can cope or not.💙

The problem with depression is that we don't feel we can cope with hardly any stresses at all. And that kind of keeps us trapped in depression because we always beat down on ourselves that we can't cope with anything and that makes us feel worse.💙

So the way out of this vicious circle is to actually do things that you think you maybe can accomplish. Some tiny first initial steps and have them feel motivating and challenging rather than overwhelming and cause you to fall back into deeper depression.💙
