My only complaint is that I should have had more lumber cut just to fill the time! We built ourselves a Pex unwinder using #theultimatequadtrailer and a couple pipes. This took us about one and a half days as we started laying the Pex Pipe right after we finished the last episode. In this episode, "Building the Shop - Part 29", we get the south form wall supported and move the rest of the A Gravel to the East side form wall. We level and pack the newly added A Gravel. A last minute order of 2 inch minus showed up and the driver spread it down the driveway. We can almost drive on it now! We still need to add more 2 inch minus to help complete the driveway but that will happen in the future. We install our 2 inch conduit for electrical in the future. In this episode, "Building the Shop - Part 25 - Fitting and Installing Insulation and Vapour Barrier", we are installing our Amvic Silverboard EPS Insulation. This was a lot of fun working with my wife Katie and son Elijah as we insulate the base of the shop. We cut all the corner pieces and got them all fitting together nicely. I thought this process was going to be harder than it was but it turned out really well. The EPS is very light and easy to move around. All the gaps, corners and form walls now all have insulation. I really wish I would have talked to the Engineers to ensure that I could have also used in on the footings. I found out after that they do this themselves. Oh well, what can I say? Next time. :) We also installed the vapour barrier and taped it all exexcept for the bottom driveway corner. We don't want to create a pool so we want any rain water to be able to drain out. In this episode, "Building the Shop - Part 21 - Cutting the First Amvic Silverboard for the Sloped Corners", we are testing our first sloped corner and cutting our Amvic Silverboard to see if we can get the slope and angles correct. The slope itself will takve more than half a sheet but I was hoping that with the sharp angle that we could still get two useable pieces for the slope. We ended up just cutting the 4'x8' sheet of Silverboard in half length ways because this way the bottom edge of the corner was exactly where it needs to be but we are missing the wedge closest to the footing. In this eposide, Building the Shop - Part 6 - Setting Batter Boards and Spreading A Gravel, we are figuring out where we need to build the West and North form of the shop base. I was first playing with the temporary corner posts so I had a good idea where we needed to put A gravel. I was using my Milwaukee Green 125 ft. 3-Plane Laser Level Kit (model 3632-21) and to be honest, it was very hard to see in the day light. In this video it seems like the laser is easy to see on the High Visibility Centering Alignment Target for the Laser Level. Maybe I was just looking at the wrong area on it. I will have to try it out again after editing this video and seeing it so clearly. If I can't see it what I might do is try to use my camera to look at the target and see if it shows up better! :) I packed the front half of the base so that way we can get a new load of A gravel and it's all compacted under it. In this episode of Building the Shop - Part 5 - Setting the Outside Perimeter to the Correct Level and Packing, we are getting the A Gravel to the right level and packing as we go. This is Elijah's first time running a packer and he's doing a great job! We are inching closer to being able to pour the concrete slab but it feels like time is flying by so quickly for the date that we set for ourselves to hit. We used the Milwaukee Fuel M18 Hatchet Pruning Saw again to cut out the tops of the shrubs before I use my chainsaw blade on my Stihl Kombi to get it right down to the ground. We do this so we don't puncture the tires on Big Blue. We're leveling the outside base with the laser and an eight foot 1x4 and then filling in between with a shovel. The first round took me about 50 minutes and then I took sometime to set up some temporary corner posts so that I know that I'm not way outside of where I should be. The second time took me about the same amount of time. I do need to get some antivibration gloves as there's no need to not wear them and save myself from future issues. Starting the Build on the Temporary Shed - Day 6 we are adding some extra supports to the trusses. I used my 7 1/4" Milwaukee Fuel M18 skill saw to help me rip them to width, length and the angles. Milling 2”x6”x16’ Poplar Lumber in Part 2 with the 5 logs we put up on the gangway from the previous episode. We try and get every bit of lumber we can using the mill so that there is very little waste... that we use for first wood so other than the saw dust there is very little waste and we are planning on using the saw dust as well. First we are cutting the bases for the drying sheds so that we can put our lumber on them and keep them off the ground! Next we setup the gangway, cut the logs to length and get them ready to be milled. The ground was really wet and we ended up making some ruts in the ground but we're running out of time. Then we were cutting 2”x6”x16’ Poplar Lumber in Part 1. Katie was a great help moving the slab away and speeding up how much wood I can mill. We got a new toy for the sawmill that sure makes milling a lot easier. There is a big struggle to get the log "level" and we had been using 2x4's to lift an end of the log and putting a shim in it to make it level. This new motorcyle lift sure makes it easy when you use a drill and 22mm socket to help lift it. We should have done this years ago.
