Green was identified on a Central Area Crime Alert Bulletin for a robbery that occurred at the same location on March 31, 2025. While speaking with a female resident from the entryway to her apartment, the officers observed Green inside armed with a knife. The officers ordered Green to drop the knife and warned that if he did not, less-lethal force would be utilized. Despite the warning, Green refused, and an officer ultimately discharged a TASER from the doorway of the apartment. The TASER was not effective, and Green threw what appeared to be a glass ashtray at the officers. Shortly thereafter, Green used a rope and attempted to lower himself out of a third-story apartment window; however, he fell to the pavement below. Green sustained a head injury as a result of his fall and was rendered unconscious. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Green to a local hospital. Green was maintained on life support for several days; however, he succumbed to his injuries on May 18, 2025. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.

As the officer reacted to the shoplifting, Pickett brandished a firearm in his wasteland and said he couldn’t go back to jail. “Right now, we have an officer observing a shoplifting. We see them get in a foot chase, but I think this incident escalates at a certain point when the individual flashes the firearm,” said Chief Harold Medina, Albuquerque Police Department. Pickett continued on foot and barricaded himself in a shed on the 400 block of Arno St, near Broadway and Lead. As officers were attempting to negotiate with Pickett, APD said he fired a shot from inside the shed and an officer returned fire, no one was injured during this exchange. “Brother, listen to me. We’re officers here; we’re just as worried as you are. I understand this is scary and frustrating, but we can get through this man, talk to me,” APD Officer Truitt Bushnell told the suspect before the exchange. After about two hours, a SWAT team arrived and took over the scene. SWAT continued negotiating for around another two hours and utilized a throw phone that is commonly used to help law enforcement communicate with barricaded suspects. Police said Pickett emerged from the shed and grabbed the phone, then further exited the shed with a firearm in his hand and raised it. As he raised the firearm, an officer fired his weapon at Pickett, another officer fired a less-lethal round and a third fired a flash bang. Pickett was hit and killed. “Yes, we hate to see an incident like this over shoplifting escalate to this point, but at the same time, our officers have a job to do,” said Medina. Officers recovered a handgun, magazine, and ammo, and found drugs and paraphernalia in Pickett’s backpack. Police said the gun was not stolen, but legally purchased by Pickett.

On May 8, Eric Salisbury, a licensed armed security guard, was monitoring the parking lot of The Gan Preschool when Manuel Castillo Garza IV, 32, of Wilsonville, Oregon, drove through. A summary memo of the incident stated he was driving at a high speed and almost hit Salisbury. Body camera footage begins with Garza exiting his car in the adjacent Fanno Creek Medical Clinic lot, and walking towards Salisbury, who put his arms around Garza's neck and strangled him. Garza then tackled the security guard, and they strangled each other during a struggle. Garza can be heard verbally taunting Salisbury in the footage. A witness from the medical facility said she heard Garza yelling loudly, and saw him attack Salisbury, then knock his glasses off his face. No other witnesses were identified in the case, and no other sources of video were found to capture the attack other than the security guard's body camera. During the struggle with Garza, Salisbury pointed his gun at Garza's stomach and said he's going to shoot him. Salisbury then shot Garza in the abdomen and pushed his body off before the clip ended. Garza died due to his injury 15 days later at the hospital on May 23. The memo stated that Salisbury had pepper spray on him, but could not reach it when he was on the ground with Garza on top of him. After the shooting on May 8, the Gan Jewish Preschool confirmed in a written statement that its armed private security officer had shot a man who had threatened and assaulted him. "During this interaction, the individual presented a direct threat to the guard. In response, the guard was forced to take protective action, using his licensed weapon to defend himself," the statement read. The statement noted that it was not believed the school had been targeted or that there was any religious bias behind the man's actions. However, it pointed out that the school hired private security because of threats to the Jewish community. At the time, the medical director for Fanno Medical Clinic, Gregg Coodley, said he was alerted to a man in his parking lot by nurses and rendered aid, putting pressure on the wound while waiting for an ambulance. "I went out, and there was a guy lying on the ground. There was blood under him in the abdomen, and he was sort of lying there moaning. He wasn't unconscious, and so I saw all this blood, and I wanted to try and stop the blood. He moved up his shirt, and he had a big bullet hole in what we call the left upper quadrant," he said. The shooting did not occur on school grounds. Parents and guardians were notified at the time. Detectives Farrar and Winters of the Portland Police Bureau investigated the incident, and Deputy District Attorney Andrew Wood reviewed the findings. The investigation concluded that Salisbury's actions were justified under Oregon law. Under Oregon law, the use of deadly force is justified when a person reasonably believes they are in imminent danger of unlawful physical force. The District Attorney's Office affirmed that Salisbury's use of force met this legal standard.

OCSO deputies responded to 203 N. Ortman Drive after receiving a 911 call about a person acting erratically in the area. The man's father was at home and told officers that his son was in a bedroom and had a knife, deputies said. Deputies tried to get the man to speak with them for five minutes before he exited the room. The sheriff said three deputies were in a hallway inside the man's home when he barged out of his bedroom with a knife. The man allegedly tried to stab one of the deputies on the scene and grabbed at the deputy's gun while swinging the knife at the deputy, OCSO said. The deputy discharged his weapon, striking the man several times. Deputies on the scene rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported the man to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He has been identified as Terry Washington Jr. An OCSO deputy was seen being loaded into an ambulance. OCSO said that during the altercation, the deputy fell back into a bathtub and cut the back of his head. The deputy has been taken to the hospital and was treated for lacerations, Mina said.

According to Asst. Chief Menendez-Sierra, officers initially responded to a crash scene on the North Freeway, where two vehicles had been involved in an accident. When officers got there, they were told that a third vehicle, a green SUV, had cut them off, causing both to collide. The driver of the green SUV reportedly fled the scene. Because the crash resulted in only minor damage, officers asked the drivers to exit the freeway for safety and continue the investigation near Aldine Ninth Grade School. A secondary police unit responded to assist and found a green SUV matching the description parked just one block south of the crash scene. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with a man inside, who appeared to be intoxicated, according to Menendez-Sierra. Menendez-Sierra said during the encounter, the suspect brandished a pistol while still seated in the vehicle. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking the man. Despite attempts to administer medical aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene unfolded around 5 p.m. on April 30 at the In-N-Out Burger on Yosemite Avenue. Police said officers responded to a disturbance involving a man in a van in the restaurant’s drive-thru. According to Manteca Police Sgt. Steven Beerman, employees refused to serve the man when they saw a beer can in his vehicle. He allegedly crashed into another car in the parking lot before officers arrived. A witness later called police. Surveillance video from the drive-thru, included in the footage released by police, shows the van striking the bumper of another car in front of it. Police said the man allegedly rammed a patrol car as they contacted him. After 20 minutes of attempted de-escalation, the man allegedly rammed at least two police cars. Five officers then fired their guns at the suspect's windshield. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The man was later identified as 69-year-old Charles McGonegal II, of Manteca, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office. No officers were hurt.

Christian Thomas Allen, 60, was killed by police on May 27, inside a home at 2963 S. Judith Street. Allen's ex-wife, who had a protective order against him, called 911 about 12:15 a.m. after locking herself in a bedroom with her two children, ages 15 and 17. "My husband is breaking into my house," she tells the emergency dispatcher in a recording of the call. "He has threatened to kill me." While at first she is unsure if he has made it inside the home, the ex-wife begins speaking to the dispatcher in whispers when she realizes, "He's in the house." In the background, Allen can be heard yelling statements such as, "This is what you get" and "Why did you do this to me?" At one point, the ex-wife tells the dispatcher that he has gasoline in the house and that Allen claimed he was going to light himself on fire and burn the house down. "I went down to Chevron and poured gasoline all over myself. I got gasoline all over me, and I'm going to light myself on fire and burn the house (inaudible). This is your … fault," he is heard yelling. 'Please hurry," the woman whispers twice to the 911 operator, sounding increasingly worried. The first arriving officer reports that he can see Allen through the living room window. As additional officers arrive, a plan is made to cover all doors. Two officers go to the front door and another two go to the backyard, all with their guns drawn. The officers who go to the back find a broken basement window, through which Allen is believed to have entered the house. An officer in front first tries knocking on the door, but gets no response, as shown in the video. When another officer stationed on the side of the house hears Allen yelling, "Shoot me," officers at both the front and back doors kick in the locked doors almost simultaneously and enter. "There's active," one officer says. "Do it, kick the door," another tells him. As soon as officers enter, they find Allen holding a large knife. Officers give him several commands with their guns drawn to drop the knife. Instead, Allen can be seen putting his head down and walking toward the officers, who then fire more than a half-dozen rounds. Allen is seen in body camera videos falling to the ground while still holding the knife. The 911 call records the gunshots followed by the sound of crying in the bedroom. Moments later, officers going through each room of the house knock on the bedroom door and tell them to open it. "Come with me, come with me. Hey, we're extracting people out. Come this way," an officer is heard saying as he escorts the woman and children out of the home. "Get out this way. Go go go." "This appears to have been a fast-moving, unpredictable, and dangerous situation," Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said in a prepared statement. "Our officers made a split-second decision to protect themselves and others in the home under extremely volatile circumstances involving a potentially life-threatening call." The two officers who fired their weapons remained on paid administrative leave Friday pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting. The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office will decide whether the shooting was legally justified.

The inspector general released his report on Monday that detailed the case that led to 29-year-old Maxim Nowak being shot. “This case presents itself as another unfortunate situation where an armed person in the throes of a mental health crisis finds himself face-to-face with police officers attempting to bring the encounter to a peaceful end but finding themselves using deadly force,” the inspector general wrote in his report. State police responded to the mental health incident on Meadow Road in Bolton on March 1, 2024, around 2:30 p.m. The inspector general said Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Brian Contenta fired his duty pistol multiple times at Maxim Nowak, injuring him in the hands, chest, and abdomen. As required by statute, the Office of Inspector General investigated the incident. The investigation established that on that day, troopers were notified by a mobile crisis center of a man at a home in Bolton who possessed a knife and wanted to harm himself. Trooper Contenta, along with troopers Wendy Garcia-Campos and Douglas Bernier, responded to the home and encountered Nowak in the kitchen holding two knives. His mother and father were in the house as well. “Troopers issued verbal commands and engaged in de-escalation tactics in an attempt to get Nowak to drop the knives,” the inspector general said. “He refused to drop the knives however, and when he made a move with a knife in one hand that was indicative of a throwing maneuver, Trooper Contenta fired his weapon, and Trooper Bernier fired his Taser.” Nowak fell to the ground screaming in pain, the inspector general said. State troopers and members of the Bolton Fire Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester treated Nowak at the scene. He was then transported to Hartford Hospital for further treatment. “Based on the facts developed during the investigation, I have determined that Trooper Contenta used deadly force to defend himself, fellow troopers, and Nowak’s father from what he reasonably believed to be a threat of serious injury,” the inspector general concluded. “Accordingly, I find such use of force to be objectively reasonable and justified.”

The suspect was identified as Earnest Duke Harrison, 33. HPD received a call at 3:25 p.m. from a Family Dollar in the 5100 block of Almeda about a man who stole some items from the store and threatened employees on the way out while brandishing a knife. Officers later found Harrison at the Southmore Boulevard bridge over Highway 288. There, HPD says officers gave the suspect verbal commands to stop. Instead, they said the man advanced towards one of the officers while wielding a machete. The officer, identified by HPD as Officer L. Jumonji, fired at Harrison, hitting him. Paramedics took Harrison to the hospital in critical condition. Officer Jumonji was not hurt. Harrison was pronounced dead by doctors on May 20.

The bodycam video—released on Tuesday—shows officers during a traffic stop in Hegewisch trying to get the suspect to exit a vehicle. When the man doesn't comply, officers then break the car's driveside window, which is when he speeds off. The chase ended in Hammond, Indiana, where the man crashed the vehicle near Dearborn and Gostlin streets. Bodycam video shows officers running up to the man who, at that point, had gotten out of the car and was standing in a nearby field. Chicago police and COPA say the man fired shots at officers, which is when the video shows two officers opening fire on him. The man was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, where he died. He was identified as 50-year-old Joseph Navarro. The two officers were taken to a hospital for observation and were reported to be in good condition. No other injuries were reported, and a gun was recovered at the scene.

At approximately 11 p.m. on May 7, OCSO received a 911 call from someone claiming to have been battered and strangled, OCSO said. The caller was later identified as 19-year-old Vanessa Eugene. Officers were dispatched to a second-floor apartment unit in the 3900 block of Titleist Court. When deputies arrived, they heard screaming from inside the apartment, OCSO said. According to the body-camera footage, deputies believed the woman inside was saying "help." They breached the front door shortly after, as it was unclear if there was another person inside, or if anyone was in danger. Deputies continued to knock as they heard a woman crying inside, as the body-camera footage shows. Shortly after, the front door was breached. However, deputies remained outside and continued attempting to communicate with the woman inside. Deputies waited about six minutes before entering the apartment, following sounds of screaming coming from a room at the back of the apartment. As deputies cleared the apartment, a subject in a dark hoodie appeared and began attacking the deputies with a knife. Two deputies discharged their agency-issued firearms, shooting Eugene. Deputies rendered aid on scene, and the woman was transported to the hospital, where she later died. Eugene was alone in the apartment. It's still unclear whether anyone else was in the apartment, as she alleged in the 911 call. Investigators believe she was alone in the apartment following the 911 call.

Hillsborough County deputies responded to a home for reports of a burglary in progress. When they arrived, they found a woman had been shot in the hand by her mother, according to detectives. A roommate and a child were also in the home and were safely taken from the home. Hillsborough County Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer said that this situation appeared to stem from ongoing domestic violence in this family's home that was never reported. The suspect in the shooting barricaded herself in a back room of the home. Deputies managed to open the door to the room and found the suspect with a gun. Deputies said they told her to drop the weapon several times, but she did not. Detectives say the woman raised her gun and that's when a deputy shot and killed her. The HCSO shooter has been with Hillsborough County for 10 months and another department for six years. He has no prior use of deadly force, according to HCSO. "Multiple commands open the door, make yourself known. Our deputies breached the door. When they breached the door, they found the suspect, the grandmother, armed with a firearm. Multiple commands again: drop the firearm, drop the firearm. The firearm is in her right hand. She raises the firearm and our deputy fires and neutralizes the threat," Maurer said. Investigators said the suspect lived in the home up until Friday, when she was asked to leave.

The gunman was identified Monday as Daniel Ortega, 34, Nexstar’s KLAS first reported. Police shot and killed Ortega, of North Las Vegas, after the shooting inside the Las Vegas Athletic Club last Friday on Rainbow Boulevard near Vegas Drive. Edgar Quinonez, a longtime employee, was killed, the business said Saturday. Three other people were injured in the shooting. Ortega worked as a bellman at a Las Vegas Strip property, several sources told KLAS. A funeral home caring for his remains had no comment Monday on behalf of the family. On May 16, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Ortega arrived at the gym, armed with an Olympic Arms PCR-223 caliber rifle and “multiple” ammunition magazines, LVMPD Asst. Sheriff Jamie Prosser said. Ortega walked passed several people who were leaving the gym and approached an employee, who was working the front desk. Prosser said Ortega then began to “pace” around the front desk while several other people left the business. A second employee approached Ortega and the two “briefly exchanged words.” The employee ran away after Ortega raised the rifle and began to shoot, hitting the employee. Ortega followed the employee deeper into the business, continuing to shoot, before making his way back to the front lobby, still shooting, Prosser said. At some point during the incident, Ortega’s weapon malfunctioned, Prosser said, though she did not specify how. She later said this malfunction “saved the incident from being a mass-casualty event.” At around 1:35 p.m., several people called 911 to report what was happening, and officers were sent to the gym. “I think I saw someone come in with an AR,” a person who called 911 said. Moments later, shots could be heard over the call. At 1:39 p.m., Officers Kaid Urban, Skeeter Black, and Aaron Javier arrived at the gym. All three officers approached the front doors and saw Ortega. Officer Javier fired a round through the window at Ortega. Shortly after, Ortega left the gym and attempted to run past the officers, according to police. Officer Urban fired four rounds, and Officer Black fired one, hitting Ortega. Police then took Ortega into custody and began providing life-saving measures, according to LVMPD officials. Medical personnel arrived and took Ortego to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Additional officers arrived and located Quinonez, as well as three other victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel took them to local hospitals. Police later learned another person took themselves to another hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Prosser said during the briefing that as of Monday afternoon, police could not confirm anything regarding a possible motive as the investigation was still ongoing. She said Ortega was a member of the gym and worked out at that location, but there is no connection between the victim and the suspect. JSO Chief Alan Parker said the man, identified as 39-year-old Michael Lee Wright, lived at the mobile home park with his girlfriend, who the sheriff's office did not identify. However, Parker said Wright's girlfriend decided not to stay with Wright Saturday night, but came back to their home Sunday morning. "She came to I guess get a few things, see how things were," Parker said. "And as she pulled up, our suspect (Wright) came out, attacked her, started throwing stuff at the vehicle and everything, so she continued on." Wright's girlfriend then went to a gas station in the nearby area, called JSO, and asked them to escort her back to her and Wright's home, Parker said. Officer Patrick Burke, who's been with JSO for five years, according to Parker, then met up with Wright's girlfriend at the gas station. Afterward, Parker said Burke and Wright's girlfriend went to the mobile home park, which is called Normandy Estates Mobile Home Park and located at 8985 Normandy Blvd., so that Wright's girlfriend could "get some things." "As they arrive on scene, and they're pulling up, the suspect (Wright) comes out and literally begins to attack the officer's vehicle," Parker said. "He's banging on it, may or may not have thrown something at it, that's all part of what they're looking at. He got up on the hood at one point, banging on the hood." Parker said Burke then reversed his vehicle, as Wright "continued his aggressive act" by hitting the vehicle on the driver's side and continuing to follow it. Burke then put his vehicle in drive after Wright got in front of it, pulled forward and pushed Wright into a yard with his vehicle, according to Parker. Afterward, Parker said Burke got out of the vehicle with his gun drawn, as Wright then "charged" at him with "some stuff in his hands." Parker said Wright told Burke, "Go ahead and kill me" repeatedly, and said Burke told Wright to drop what Wright had in his hands. Parker did not mention what Wright had in his hands. When Wright charged at Burke, according to Parker, Burke fired several shots, striking Wright. Afterward, Burke gave Wright medical treatment after he was able to "safely secure" him, Parker said. Then, Parker said Wright was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Parker said Wright has an "extensive drug history," was Baker Acted about three years ago, and "had an overdose" within the past week. Parker also said Wright texted his girlfriend at an unknown time Sunday, saying "I'm going to die today."

During the incident, that man fired more than 60 shots at both neighbors and officers. Neighbors said it all started over a dispute about a tree hanging over into his yard that he cut back. It happened in the Winston Manor neighborhood on Arroyo Drive. South San Francisco officers can be heard in the bodycam video moments before the shootout. "Okay, someone coming out," an officer said. "That's a shotgun! Drop it! He's behind the bush. Drop it! Drop the gun. He's behind the bush!" In the video, at least 15 gunshots can then be heard. The gunman, identified as Brian Montana, was seen on police drone video as he fired shots at officers from behind bushes in the South San Francisco neighborhood. The neighbors were the ones who called authorities to the scene. "Our neighbor is like pointing a gun at my husband outside," said one woman to a police dispatcher. Photos released by police of the home that Montana fired into show bullet holes in the front door and windows. Two people were injured but are going to be okay. Montana was shot and killed by officers a short time later. "There he is. Can I take it?" asked an officer on bodycam video before shots were fired.

Police say 58-year-old John McCloud was shot and killed by FWPD Officer Julian Mestre after police were called to a home break-in at a Wells Street home around 2 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2024. McCloud’s family has been demanding the release of the footage after viewing the video themselves several months ago, expressing frustration with the department’s transparency in the incident. In an edited video released by FWPD, a 911 caller could be heard telling dispatchers a man was breaking into a home on Wells Street, saying “he just busted in the door.” The woman said he was “tripping” and was screaming for help before entering the home by breaking through the glass on the front door. A woman who lived in the home also called 911, saying she heard someone break in and that they were on the other side of the door, the FWPD video shows. The man could be heard in the background, then the woman began screaming and saying he was coming into her bedroom. Body camera footage from Mestre shows him arrive at the home and get out of his squad car before pulling his gun out and walking up the front steps of the home. Blood could be seen on the floor of the home’s entryway, along with broken glass. Mestre then goes up bloodied stairs to the room where the woman barricaded herself in, sees McCloud through a cracked door, and shoots four times. The homeowner said, McCloud started physically assaulting her just before officers arrived, and she could be seen near the man just before Mestre fired his gun. “The entire time, you can hear John on the ground breathing, gasping, we know he’s still alive,” the McCloud family’s attorney, Harvey Lancaster, said. “They’re not doing any life-saving measures. It’s like they’re just standing there, essentially letting him die.” “The body cam footage is the final voice from my father,” John Jr., McCloud’s son, said. “If the world can see that, they’ll get that clear view of what actually happened.” The family says they are planning on pursuing legal action against the department. The woman who owned the home, who was inside her room at the time McCloud broke in, said she did not believe McCloud broke into her home with any intent to harm her. She said she heard the sound of breaking glass, later finding McCloud had thrown himself through her glass front door, and called 911. She said he roamed through the home, which was in the process of being renovated, before going upstairs, where she was barricading herself in her room. She says McCloud tried to get into her bedroom twice, and eventually kicked through her wooden door, went into her room, and began to physically assault her. She says police arrived right as the altercation was taking place.

According to the DCSO, it received a call from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office in Georgia about a man with an active warrant in Georgia's Forsyth County for enticing a child for indecent purposes. Deputies discovered Matthew Steven Rollie, 30, was a registered sexual offender but did not register in DeSoto County, as required by law. At approximately 2:16 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be occupied by Rollie around state Road 72 between Thigpen Road and Addison Avenue. Two people were in the vehicle, and deputies identified Rollie as the passenger. As deputies were working to confirm his identity, the DCSO said that Rollie armed himself with a firearm and opened fire. He struck one of the deputies multiple times. According to the DCSO, deputies returned fire and struck Rollie. At the scene, Rollie was pronounced dead. The DCSO said the injured deputy is at home recovering.

The sheriff’s office said dispatch received a 911 call from a woman claiming her husband, 75-year-old Jesse William Wright, was threatening her and was armed with a shotgun. “My husband has locked me in, [he] refuses to let me out, and I’m scared to go into the house because he’s threatened to beat me,” the 911 caller said. According to bodycam footage, a deputy arrived to the home on Coster Road and tried to negotiate with Wright, who was standing on the front porch. In the video, you can hear Wright say, “You all want to die? I don’t care,” and, “I’m 75 years old. I’ve done lived my [profanity] life.” Officials said a backup deputy arrived on scene. When Wright pointed his gun at the deputy, both officials fired at Wright. Deputies began first aid care on Wright, but he passed away at the scene.

The deadly shooting happened on April 1, during a traffic stop along Pacific Coast Highway between Superior Avenue and Hoag Hospital. The officer pulled over 45-year-old Geoff Shyam Stirling at roughly 9:15 p.m. after he allegedly drove through a red light. The dash camera video from the officer's car shows Stirling being uncooperative and refusing to sit on the curb while detained. It also showed Stirling lunging at the officer after he briefly turned his back while radioing for an additional unit. The two men briefly scuffled on the side of the road until Stirling stole the officer's taser and pointed it at him. With about an arm's length between Stirling and himself, the officer ordered Stirling to drop the taser before immediately shooting six times. Authorities drove Stirling to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Newport Beach PD said none of its officers suffered any injuries. Immediately after the shooting, the California Attorney General's Office launched an investigation into the shooting as required by AB 1506, which mandates an investigation when law enforcement shoots an unarmed person. Days after the shooting, former Real Housewives of Orange County cast member Lydia McLaughlin said Stirling was her brother.

The incident happened on June 16, 2023. New York State Trooper Richard Albert pulled over a car that he saw going over 100 mph on I-88. That traffic stop quickly turned violent. Albert is seen getting out of his car and approached the vehicle. Then, Nelson Troche, 32, stuck a handgun out of the window and began firing. Troche shot Albert in the shoulder. He had minor injuries. There was a shootout, and Albert continued to fire back after he was shot. The shooting caused a chain-reaction collision, as a passing pickup truck stopped to avoid the gunfire and a log truck tractor-trailer rear-ended the truck, police said. Troche and his girlfriend, Alicia Eriole, attempted to get away, when the log truck driver intentionally rammed the vehicle to stop it. Eriole and Troche fled on foot. Despite being injured, Albert followed the pair and exchanged gunfire with Troche. They then forced the driver of the pickup truck out of the vehicle and attempted to carjack it. However, it was too damaged to drive, the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office said. Eriole and Troche then ran into the wooded area off Darby Hill Road in Duanesburg. As troopers closed in on their location, Troche died by suicide.

According to Shelby Police, the incident happened at 11:18 p.m. on Saturday at the Arby's on the 230 block of Mansfield Avenue. The video shows Sgt. Noah Kocher and Officer Dominic Ewing executing an arrest warrant for Tyler Jacobs. Police say that when Kocher made contact with Jacobs, Jacobs stabbed him in the neck with a knife. Despite his injury, Kocher managed to distance himself from Jacobs and then shot him. Officer Ewing, who was stationed at the back door, immediately provided aid to both Kocher and Jacobs. Both men were transported to a local hospital. Kocher is reported to be in stable condition, while Jacobs succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The footage shows 53-year-old Melanie Udell running into Officer Matthew James with her car after he and Officer Nathan Anderson attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The police say even though it’s intense, they’ve released the footage so they can maintain transparency with the public. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that the officer’s use of a gun was justifiable. State’s Attorney Julie Lawyer confirmed the shooting didn’t warrant any criminal charges, since Officer Anderson fired his weapon after the suspect hit Officer James. Bismarck Police Chief Dave Draovitch says if Officer Anderson hadn’t fired his weapon, the woman could have hit Officer James with her car again. “Officer Anderson’s quick response likely prevented the loss of Officer James’ life,” Chief Draovitch said. The woman who hit the officer with her car died from her injuries at the hospital. Officer James requires knee surgery, and it will likely be at least a year before he’s ready to return to regular duty.

On Dec. 19, 2024, at 4:42 p.m., dispatch sent a radio call requesting officers to respond to a house on North 2575 East, according to the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office’s review of the Critical Incident Task Force investigation. Officers were informed that a 17-year-old boy had stabbed his juvenile brother and his mother with a butcher knife. The review states the stabbing victims barricaded themselves in a locked SUV in the driveway, and the 17-year-old tried to break into the vehicle. Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jacob Ballard was the first to arrive on the scene, according to the review. Deputy Ballard drew his gun after spotting the teenager with a shovel trying to break into the car. The teenager initially complied with Deputy Ballard’s verbal orders, lying on the ground. The 17-year-old then “abruptly rose and rushed towards Ballard,” according to the review. As the teenager approached, the deputy fired two shots into the teenager’s chest. The review states that emergency responders performed CPR, but the teenager died from his injuries. The mother and brother received medical care for their stab wounds and survived. The Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office concluded that Ballard’s actions were justified and that “there is no reasonable likelihood of proving the elements of any crime beyond a reasonable doubt against the involved officer,” according to the review. Video shows an Ohio trooper approaching the man, now identified as Deshawn Leeth, who had crashed his vehicle on the side of the turnpike near the state line. After about 20 seconds, the man starts to run away. When he comes back toward the cruiser, the trooper uses a Taser, but it did not work. From the dash camera footage, Leeth can be heard talking to himself for about 11 minutes while police chased him before he crashed in North Sewickley, Beaver County. When troopers approached the stolen cruiser, police said an altercation took place, and investigators shot the man. Police have not said whether Leeth had a weapon.

Connor Darpino, 34, of Wayne, is facing several charges, including assault and weapons possession, stemming from actions prior to the shooting Feb. 14, according to a press release from the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday. An investigation into the officer who shot Darpino, Wayne Police Lt. Douglas Itjen, is ongoing. Once completed, it will be presented to a grand jury to determine whether Itjen's use of force was justified under the law. Wayne Police first encountered Darpino earlier on the day of the shooting after responding to a single-car collision in which he was the driver, the prosecutor's office stated. He became "argumentative and combative" with an officer and was arrested, charged on a summons-related complaint and released. Shortly before 10 p.m. Feb. 14, a 911 caller reported a man intentionally took approximately 20 Xanax pills, according to the release. When police arrived at the home, Darpino stepped out on a second-floor balcony holding two swords and told officers he would jump down and stab them, the prosecutor's office stated. Passaic County: Law enforcement leader with 52 years of service has died at 74 Darpino then retreated to a room on the second floor and closed the door. Officers secured the perimeter of the house and requested additional support for a barricaded subject. Darpino suddenly emerged from the room with the two swords and moved down the stairs toward police "at a fast pace," the release stated. Officers could be heard multiple times on the bodycam video instructing him to "drop them down," but he kept the weapons in his hand. Itjen fired his service weapon seven times, striking Darpino five times, according to the release. Police immediately provided aid to Darpino, who was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment. Darpino was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and one count each of terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. A burglary suspect was shot and killed by police. A shootout happened Sunday morning in the 1800 block of South Ridgeway Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, COPA officials said. Chicago police said officers were responding to a burglary in progress in the 1800 block of South Central Park Avenue when they encountered a suspect. The situation escalated with a chase and an exchange of gunfire across several blocks. Citizen app video recorded gunfire at the scene, and nearby residents described the chaos. "Like a war back and forth, I don't know, just a lot of gunshots," resident Mustafa Hayes said. The suspect opened fire at police, and officers returned fire, CPD officials said. "Bunch of gunshot... eight, nine, 10 gun shots, then return fire, like seven, eight return fire shots," an anonymous resident told ABC7. "Then more shots fired, so you could tell it was different people shooting at each other, so you could tell it was more than one person's." The suspect was shot and later died from their injuries, police said. Their identity was not yet known. A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.

The video shows a foot chase, a struggle for an officer's service weapon, and multiple shots fired into the man before he went limp. Houston police said officers responded to a call of someone slashing tires and breaking car windows with a sharp object on Caddo Road just before 8 a.m. A woman who lived nearby told KHOU 11 she witnessed the man vandalizing a car by breaking the glass on two different windows. She said the suspect then tried to go inside her neighbor's house before walking away. When police arrived at the scene, they spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect, HPD said. Officers tried to arrest him, but he took off running toward Homestead Road. After they caught up with him, HPD says he resisted arrest and struggled with the officers. The video shows an officer identified as Officer Zhu tackling the suspect, but then he flips over on top of Zhu. One of the officers is heard shouting, "He's got my gun!" while other officers are struggling with the man. Police say the suspect fired the gun while trying to remove it from the officer's holster. An officer, identified in the video as Officer Avila, stepped back and fired at least two shots at the suspect. The man goes limp after the second shot, still on top of Officer Zhu. They carefully move the suspect because they said his finger was still on the trigger of the officer's gun. No officers were injured in the incident, HPD said. The man's identity hasn't been released.

That woman told police she thought the man was going to kill her. The shooting happened just after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 in the 700 block of 6th Street in Boulder City, LVMPD Capt. Kurt McKenzie said last week. The department identified the officer involved as Cesar Ibarra, 48. Officer Ibarra has been employed with LVMPD since 2005 and is currently on paid administrative leave. During the shooting, Ibarra fired two rounds. Police did not say how many rounds his wife fired. Boulder City police recieved a call from an open line in the 800 block of 6th Street. Dispatchers could hear what appeared to be fighting in the background, Assistant Sheriff Jamie Prosser said on Tuesday. A woman said her husband was in the front of their home with a gun. Shortly after she said that, shots were fired. BCP officers arrived and rendered aid to a man identified as Jeremiah Boshard, 45. Medical personnel later pronounced him dead at the scene. Officer Ibarra told BCP officers he heard a “commotion” in the backyard of a neighbor’s house. Ibarra said he saw Boshard “trying to pull [a clothesline] out of the ground” before he saw Boshard “bodyslam” a woman onto the ground, get on top of her, and hit her in the face, Prosser said. The victim suffered multiple lacerations to her head, swelling to her face, cut and bruised lips, and strangulation marks on her neck. Ibarra then told his wife to call police while he went into the backyard to separate Boshard and the victim. Ibarra was able to get the victim to a chair in front of his house, but Boshard followed Ibarra and the two began fighting, Prosser said. Boshard “slammed” Ibarra’s head into a vehicle in the driveway, Prosser said. Boshard was also able to “incircle his arm around [Ibarra’s] neck” and Ibarra’s wife grabbed a gun. Ibarra was able to get free from Boshard and drew his gun, identifying himself as a police officer, and gave “several” commands for Boshard to get on the ground and back away. Despite commands, Boshard moved toward the victim, causing both Ibarra and his wife to fire at him. Boshard would have faced the following charges if he had survived: * One count of attempted murder * One count of battery on a protected person The victim told police that she believed Boshard was going to kill her if someone did not intervene. Ibarra was off-duty at the time of the shooting, but because he identified himself as a police officer and took action as a police officer, the LVMPD is considering the incident an officer-involved shooting.

The officers responded to the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night to search for 33-year-old Austin Schepers. Schepers was accused of shooting Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Zac Andry four times when Andry stopped to check on a car he thought was abandoned on Highway 150 and State Road 56 near West Baden. That shooting happened Saturday morning. A manhunt ensued, with police being led to New Albany on tips that Schepers might be there, and eventually to Louisville. LMPD found Schepers in the backyard of a home on Wheeler Avenue. They said he fired shots at the officers first, so they returned fire, hitting him several times. Schepers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was brought to a hospital in critical condition, an LAPD spokesperson said. An innocent woman who was in the area was also struck by gunfire on the arm and was brought to a local hospital. She is expected to survive. The violent series of events unfolded around 12:17 p.m. when police were called about a domestic violence suspect in a white Maserati who was apparently following an alleged victim riding on a city DASH bus in the San Pedro area. Officers found the Maserati on the northbound 110 Freeway and attempted to pull the suspect over. He briefly pulled to the side of the road, but then took off as officers approached. They chased him along the freeway and into the West Adams area, and eventually into a residential neighborhood near West and Jefferson boulevards. The suspect pulled into a driveway, parked behind an apartment building and walked toward the street, where police were approaching. "The suspect in the driveway pulled out two guns - one in each hand - and opened fire on the officers," McDonnell said. "Officers returned fire, striking the suspect." "The suspect was on the ground, the officers went to his location, secured the firearms, administered aid to him, requested a paramedic ambulance who responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital." McDonnell says from shell casings on the ground near the suspect, it appears he fired his weapons multiple times. Officers also fired multiple rounds.

Henderson's family said he was completing a DoorDash order when the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Aprll 26 in the 1100 block of Metropolitan Avenue in KCK. Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree said Henderson's family has seen the body camera footage of the shooting. Dupree said that during a traffic stop, Henderson began driving away at a high rate of speed. The officer who discharged his weapon was stuck between the door and the driver's compartment. Dupree said despite multiple commands from the officer to stop, Henderson continued driving at a high rate of speed. The officer then opened fire, striking and killing Henderson. "Under Kansas law, an officer may use deadly force if he or she is in immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death," Dupree said in a news release.

The grandmother reported to dispatch that Kopp had "broken into her home, was ransacking her home, and was threatening to kill [his grandmother], her daughter and himself," according to the Guilford County District Attorney's office. In the bodycam footage, a responding officer finds the grandmother sitting on the curb outside her residence in a state of panic. She explains the situation to the officer, and they start moving up the driveway toward the home. As the officer is moving up the driveway, Kopp appears from the front entrance of the home holding a knife. Kopp then states, "I have no intention of living," before starting down the front steps toward the officer. As Kopp moves toward him, the officer yells, "Put down the knife," before firing his gun twice and hitting Kopp. The officer then goes to Kopp's side to render aid. Kopp was transported to a local hospital but died of his injuries. A silver kitchen knife was found in the driveway after the incident. The officer's use of force was justified.

The incident unfolded the evening of Oct. 5 when, according to police, Deyaa Abdelhadi Halaibeh, 28, first assaulted an employee at the Target store on 420 Broadway and ran away with a knife set. Halaibeh then walked a short distance to the police station on Olympic Drive, where he rang the call button to speak to an officer, security video shows. An officer opened the door to the courtyard and immediately encountered Halaibeh, with his right hand tucked inside his jacket, standing near two other people who were also waiting to speak to police. “What’s in your jacket? I’m kind of nervous with your hand in your jacket like that,” the officer asked. Halaibeh, who appeared agitated, responded by asking, “You’re nervous?” and immediately pulled out a knife and slashed at the officer. Body camera and surveillance footage show the officer running around a corner in an attempt to get away, but Halaibeh caught up with him, and they both fell to the ground. The officer fired several shots as he got to his feet and backed away with his service weapon pointed at his attacker. “Get on the ground!” the officer yelled. Instead, Halaibeh stood up and walked toward the officer while still holding the knife, later determined to be a purple 8-inch Cuisinart blade he had stolen from Target, according to police. The officer opened fire, striking Halaibeh with several rounds that proved to be fatal. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer sustained “multiple, severe” stab wounds to his neck and shoulder area, police said. Investigators determined that Halaibeh, originally from New York State, had been in the Santa Monica area for around a week. The motive for the attack remains unknown.

According to Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir, two HPD officers were responding to an unrelated call around 2:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots nearby. After clearing the call, Bashir said they made their way to Corksie near Dulcimer to ensure it was safe. When they arrived, the officers reported seeing a car with a broken window and a man nearby. Investigators said one of the officers asked the man if he heard any gunshots or saw anything unusual. That's when the man allegedly began shooting at officers. At 6:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, Kendall County Sheriff's deputies were called to assist Plano police officers after a report of a home invasion in the 3800 block of Pratt Court in Plano. Upon arriving, Plano officers saw a green Ford Bronco Sport pulling out of the garage at the house where the home invasion had been reported. The officer, with his gun drawn, is heard in the body cam video ordering the driver to stop. But the driver does not stop, instead running haphazardly over lawns as he hits the road. The next video clip shows a pursuit along U.S. Route 34, or Ogden Avenue, through Yorkville and Oswego and finally into Aurora. Meanwhile, police learned a man identified as Russell Novak, 70, was found back in the house in Plano with multiple gunshot wounds—and died as a result of his injuries. Police determined the suspect they were pursuing may be armed and dangerous. Upon reaching Eola Road in Aurora, the Ford Bronco turned to head south—and then made a U-turn at Keating Drive to head back toward Route 34. At that point, the Bronco entered the left turn lane, police said. In the left turn lane, the driver is seen on dashcam video getting out of the car with a long gun raised. The driver fires at officers, and the officers fire back as the driver falls to the ground. Police said a Plano officer and a Kendall County Sheriff's deputy fired at the driver and struck him. Officers rendered aid to the driver shortly afterward.

The shooting happened Friday night just before midnight on 10th Avenue North at Garfield Street. Police said the man, 26-year-old Adam Rodriguez, and his girlfriend were in a Kia when they bumped into the Uber driver’s Honda minivan. Police said it is believed a shot was fired in the Kia through the windshield just before the crash. After the crash, Rodriguez and his girlfriend carjacked the Uber driver at 8th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard in downtown Nashville at gunpoint. Less than half an hour later, officers spotted the Honda minivan in North Nashville. Officers deployed a spike strip, flattened the minivan’s tires, and followed it onto 10th Avenue North. MNPD officer Pierce Moore followed Rodriguez to the back of a home where the shooting happened. Moore was seen on body camera video repeatedly asking Rodriguez to “drop the gun” as he made his way onto the back porch where Rodriguez was. As Rodriguez lifted the gun in his hand, Moore shot at him, according to MNPD. Police rendered aid to Rodriguez, and he was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he died.

The shooting happened near Gale Boulevard and West Thornton Parkway — between Pecos and Huron streets — around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the police department said in a news release. When officers approached a man suspected to be involved in an assault that happened at a nearby gas station, a fight broke out, police said in the release. The suspect grabbed a gun in one of the Thornton officers’ holsters and the two struggled over the weapon, police said. The officer was shot during the struggle, and another Thornton officer shot the suspect. Police said the assault suspect died at the scene, and paramedics transported the officer to a hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.” The Adams County Coroner on July 26 identified the man killed as Gilberto Velazquez Carnero, 27.
