Soil is now depleted of nutrients, so fruit today, vs 100 years
ago has less micronutrients...
-has more chemicals
-magnesium in it is bound due to adding potassium as
fertilizer, so virtually all of our food, not just fruit
is magnesium depleted now
-animal foods are low also.

Honey: as nature intended, is for the hibernation use of
the bees...
-hard to get in abundance
-honey: 55% fructose; 45% glucose
-can be preserved for long, long time due to high sugar
-honey in pantry is not in natural state
-we need bees for pollenating plants
-hives often transported long distance
to pollenate crops
-pesticides harming bee populations

I used to be addicted to all of this...fruit for breakfast &
snacks; had honey-toasted corn flakes
-it simply drove hunger and weight gain
Nutrition Labels: over 100 names for sugar
-label does not group sugars together
-in Australia, list grams of sugar under
grams of carbs
Most people don't read labels

Two ways to consider grocery foods:
-if it has a label, don't eat it
-if there are more than 5 ingredients
Another from Caryn Zinn, dietician, New Zealand
"Empty pantry; full fridge"
-buying local, in season, takes
time to prepare
