218,000 registered voters in the battleground state of Arizona are potentially non -citizens which is more than double the amount that was initially reported by officials last month.
In Arizona, you do not have to prove you are a citizen to vote in federal elections, you simply have to check a box saying you are.
However, in state and local elections, you have to provide proof, — a requirement dating back to 2004. Driver’s licenses issued after 1996 are considered valid documented proof of citizenship, but the system error marked the original batch of voters who had pre-1996 licenses as eligible to vote in state and local races.
