"I Swear ," written by Gary Baker and Frank J. Myers, was first recorded by John Michael Montgomery; his version rose to the no.1 position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and no. 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993 and remained on the chart for 20 weeks (Whitburn, 1994, 2013). The following year, 1994, All-4-One released their cover version of the song and had their second consecutive top 10 hit; the song hit the no. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained on the chart for 30 weeks, remained at the no. 1 position for 11 weeks and earned the group a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (songfacts, 2024; Whitburn, 2013). "'I Swear' isn't the only no. 1 Country hit to reach the top of the Hot 100 in a version by a different artist: In 1992, "I Will Always Love You" pulled it off when Whitney Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's song hit the top spot" (songfacts, 2024).
