We have a heart-to-heart with a 12 year old girl and her mum, about what's they are seeing and hearing at their Intermediate (middle) school.
Some topics covered in this conversation:
- how this family's school teacher overreached by requiring parents to opt out of EACH sex ed lesson and requirement to provide a reason!
- what some students are saying who are attending the sex ed classes
- how girls are feeling about using unisex toilets (that can be unlocked from the outside!)
- kids and phone use
Our hope is that this conversation will help families to ask questions, strengthen your relationships, and understand better what is going on in our classrooms and school yards.
