LA bus hijacking prompts huge police chase

A Los Angeles man is in custody after shooting a bus passenger, hijacking the bus, and leading police on a bizarre chase, like a poor Netflix reboot of the movie ‘Speed.’ The unidentified attacker apparently boarded the bus at around midnight on Wednesday morning, shooting a passenger and holding the driver hostage at gunpoint. Several passengers at this point left the bus (somehow) before police were called to the scene. The assailant instructed the driver to go north, presumably to somewhere not covered by any of the bus company’s routes, but appeared to have no other demands.

A chase ensued throughout Los Angeles for miles, coming to a head just after 2am, when SWAT teams deployed spike strips. The standoff continued after the end of the chase, with the gunman barricading himself inside. SWAT teams eventually were able to breach the bus, arresting the gunman and rescuing the remaining hostages. The wounded passenger was taken to hospital, but did not survive their injuries. Police have not yet established a motive for the strange incident.
