Post-Conditioning Pressing & Accessories

I began with incline dumbbell press at a slightly higher load than usual as it’s time for another progression. I kept sets at controlled triples to practice “strength-skill,” focusing on the pressing groove, inter-abdominal tension and leg drive. I did triples at 2-3 RIR

Next, for progressive TENSION overload, I continued incline dumbbells with down sets at a lower weight but higher volume. Because of the Henneman’s Size Principle, after the heavier triples, the larger, stronger motor units will have to be recruited even at this lower weight. In this manner I get more stimulus to the muscle, less wear in the connective tissues. These sets I did in the 10+ rep range with 0-1 RIR, not quite but very close to failure

Next, to end the progressive tension resistance cascade of failure, I hit “Louie’s” barbell pushups. Now I’m only moving bodyweight at 20+ rep sets. The first few sets were at 1-2 RIR but set by set they incrementally got closer to failure until the last set was struggle-city

Last, for direct triceps work I did Close-Grip Cable Pushdowns with either EZ-Curl Attachment. These I did a bit heavier, since my triceps still had a bit of gas and finished them off with 10-15 rep sets
