AR-0103: Ever wondered how notorious German filmmaker Use Boll got his start in English filmmaking? His first English-language movie was this B-grade serial killer police procedural made in Canada [the HQ of the Boll Empire], starring Johnny Rico as a nasty narcissist of a yuppie who moonlights as The Monkey Maker, a serial killer who bases his killings on the Three Monkeys proverb ["See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil"] and in batches of six [First six victims get their eyes removed, the next six lose their ears and you can guess what the final six lose...]. To boost his Brain-Bug-from-Planet-Klendathu-sized ego, he poses as a witness to one of his killings and starts playing mind games with the cops on the case, leading to some crazy hitsa going down...

I'm not a member of the "Let's Hate Uwe Boll" club as judging from his slick directing skills, he can definitely put up something entertaining [Boll's only flaw is that his choice of screenwriters constantly sucks], while "Sanctimony" is a very strange movie that feels like Boll crossed "Se7en" with "American Psycho" and ran it through a blender borrowed from a German Techno Club.

BTW my review copy came from the Australian DVD from Magna Pacific, an old Aussie label that handled B-grade horror and sci-fi films during the 2000s, and while the print here is cropped to 1.33 from its original 2.35 ratio, it is entirely uncut, making it superior to the British DVD issues that were around at the time.

My Grade: D+ [Disappointing]
