The Citi Trifecta consists of the Citi Strata Premier, Citi Custom Cash, and Citi Double Cash. You can even add a 4th credit card (the Citi Rewards+) to make for the Citi Quadfecta! And may I just say, this setup is INCREDIBLE! Not only is the all-in cost just $95 for all annual fees, but all of these credit cards earn Citi ThankYou points. That means you can combine them all for maximum value.

You can earn in several 10X and 5X rewards categories, and then get access to all of the Citi transfer partners for some incredible international flight redemptions.

One of the standout features is the Citi Custom Cash card, which allows you to earn 5X points in YOUR top spend category each billing cycle. That level of flexibility is fantastic, because you’ll automatically earn those 5X points in whichever area (from a select list of eligible categories) ended up having the greatest amount of spend, up to $500 per billing cycle. Many other similar credit cards (like the Chase Freedom Flex and Discover it Cash Back credit card) require you to earn 5% cash back or 5X points according to a calendar the bank sets, up to $1,500 per quarter.

That said, I like how Citi ThankYou points also give you a good, flat-rate value for cash back and travel (1 point = $0.01) and the potential for higher value when maximized via transfer partners (1 point = $0.017 as an average figure).

As great as the Chase Trifecta (including the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom Flex, and Chase Freedom Unlimited) and Amex Trifecta (typically the Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, and Amex Blue Business Plus) can be, I’ve found the simplicity, low cost, flexibility, and strong value of the Citi Trifecta to be a great fit for me right now.

Now it’s a waiting game to see if Citi releases a new, premium travel credit card as their flagship card product with airport lounge access and other VIP benefits (perhaps the Citi Strata Elite??). We’ll have to see!
