Biden wears MAGA hat to commemorate 9/11

Joe Biden continued on the campaign trail (which isn’t really his anymore), wearing his now famous red MAGA hat and telling people not to eat their pets and… wait, Joe Biden? Yes, the old-timer rolled back the years to show the kind of humor and common touch that took him all the way to the top of politics, making jokes about his age, making jokes about Trump, dealing with one rather belligerent country gentleman, and then giving reporters a literal field day when he decided to put on a MAGA hat. Cue headlines about Sleepy Joe going senile and finally going full MAGA. Even Trump knows, you never go full MAGA. But why did he do it?

Biden was in Shanksville, Pennsylvania – the place where United 93 crashed before it could hit its target, suspected to have been the Capitol – to ‘do 9/11’ as he put it. Somerset County is deep red Trump country these days, and it showed, with a rather belligerent guest at the Fire Station event happy to call Biden an ‘old fart’ and demand Biden put on a red Trump hat. Biden, showing little of the gaffe production capabilities that have plagued him these past few centuries, instead won over the crowd with a disarming display, donning Don’s hat, before mocking Trump, asking them to not eat their ‘dogs and cats’ (John McClane would be suspicious at this point).

Admittedly, the sight of Biden dressing up as his opponent might be considered bad optics, especially as his replacement/usurper/vice president Kamala Harris has been doing the political equivalent of that, wholesale adopting Trump’s policies. Bad optics, perhaps, but hey, at least he looks good in red, don’t you think?
