'Disruptive" food transformations

These clips are from a wider talk from Tony Weber, who heads up RethinkX, a think tank that focuses on identifying disruptive innovations that could soon impact society.

Tony states the next 15-20 years are to be the most disruptive years in history. We are being taken into a completely synthetic and genetically altered future.

Tony talks about three disruptive sectors in this talk- Renewable Energy, EV Autonomous Cars and Food. I’ve edited where he talks about food. Tony says the changes coming for our food systems are the greatest in 10,000 years; i.e food is to be synthetic, created in vats and taken off the land.
His synopsis-as precision fermentation (genetically altered yeast pumping out proteins in vats) products decrease in price and become cheaper then food/ animals grown on land (and the price of food grown on land will continuously rise- we are told it will be for the wealthy), precision fermentation will become the mainstream food “choice”.

Tony goes on to talk about the benefits of freeing up land through producing our food in Vats. These are the main justifications- reclaiming agricultural land for climate sequestration for climate change (Sdg13) and feeding the world (Sdg2).

Tony talks about leaving nature alone- letting it rewild, however, he is not accurate- nature - ecosystems will be genetically engineered (terraformed).
As always, the investors are champing at the bit to make money and get in on the new technological “disruptors”. They are not concerned with the health implications, or that of centralised control over our food systems, or the implications for people’s right to live on the land (this right is being chipped away bit by bit).
