Chaos engulfed the northern English city of Leeds yesterday after a dispute over authorities taking a child into care escalated into a full-blown riot. The outbreak of serious disorder, in Harehills, led to bonfires, an overturned police car, and a torched double-decker bus. The disorder started early in the afternoon, when local social services attempted to remove five children from their parents after their 7-month-old baby was reportedly taken to hospital with head injuries after falling out of a window. The family, allegedly part of Leeds’ large Roma community, incited a riot against the care workers, and then against the police response, until chaos reigned. Despite police responding initially around 5pm, their presence remained minimal until 1am the following day, leaving residents to plead with rioters to stop. Videos taken early in the riot appear to show police officers running away, in an apparent attempt to avoid confrontation. This did not work, and the riots continued well into the morning. West Yorkshire Police have pledged to hold those responsible (for the riots) accountable, reviewing footage and gathering evidence to pursue legal action. Local leaders condemned the violence and called for community support to restore order, while urging residents to avoid the area and stay indoors for safety.

Harrison Faulkner investigated the UofT campus anti-Israel occupation last week to see what exactly was going on. Despite the tent encampment obviously breaking several laws, campus police have permitted the occupation to remain in tact. The reasons as to why this has been allowed to go on for so long are unknown. The occupiers are strictly enforcing border measures of their territory and have set in place strict messaging control, only allowing media liaisons to speak to the press. When True North was finally let into the encampment, we were under the close supervision of a “media escort” who followed us everywhere we went and told us not to film any faces. The pro-Palestinian protests on American college campuses are still raging, as hundreds of protestors just overpowered police barricades on George Washington University’s campus. When will the universities get this insanity under control? The GW Hatchet, George Washington University’s student newspaper, reports: ‘Hundreds of protesters broke through barricades blocking access to the pro-Palestinian encampment in University Yard on Sunday night. At 11:28 p.m. students toppled the barricade between U-Yard and H Street after one GW Police Department officer, supported by three others, held the arms of a protester inside the encampment behind his back and moved him toward the encampment’s northwest barricade. Immediately after, one of the three officers removed his baton from its holster. Protesters on H Street — where a second encampment has formed following officials’ construction of a fence around U-Yard Friday morning — surged to the barricade, forcing an impasse, chanting “Let him go” and “Shame on you.”’ Encampment appears to be the mainstream media’s favorite word right now to describe the pro-Hamas takeovers on college campuses. However, the antisemitic protests are not just college kids camping out. Jewish students and faculty and those who support Israel are unsafe amid violent destruction and attacks. Similar to actions taken by Harvard to limit the protests to involving only college students, GWU set up barricades to keep outside agitators, i.e., professional protestors/organizers, from joining the fray. However, outsiders toppled the barricades, leading to what appears to be a scene from a bizarro version of Les Misérables: protestors standing on top of the barricades waving a Palestinian flag and spewing hateful rhetoric from a bullhorn. Police then intervened, but the rioting was so fierce that many of the police appeared to fear for their safety. I’m just as tired of these pro-Hamas riots on college campuses as you are – enough is enough. The ACLJ’s legal team is sending a demand letter to the Department of Education and the overrun colleges, reminding them of their legal obligation to protect Jewish and Zionist students (including Christian students) and stop violent protests. The school administrators are apparently afraid of their students. The administrators’ feckless response shows they also fear that shutting down these protests will be seen as a right-wing move. They are unwilling to make the hard choices necessary to regain control of their campuses. It’s time to end these protests that are endangering the safety of the students and faculty – the ACLJ is doing its part by putting pressure on the school administrations. I hope the school leaders act soon and prioritize the students’ safety rather than capitulate to the protestors’ radical demands. Anti-Israel attacks also are occurring at international tribunals. We have the shocking news that the International Criminal Court (ICC) could issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The ICC – made up of 124 countries and located in The Hague – doesn’t like how Israel is defending itself after the despicable atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7. If a warrant is issued on Netanyahu, his ability to go to certain places, such as Europe, to garner support for Israel would be severely limited. Former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. and the U.N. Danny Danon joined Sekulow to discuss Israel’s determination to defend herself regardless of the international community’s condemnation: “We are still dealing with bringing back the hostages. We have war with Hezbollah in the north. So that’s another front. . . . We are determined to finish the job; we are determined to win this war against evil, against Hamas. So no one will stop us. Not the ICC, not the ICJ. We will do whatever it takes to win. We haven’t forgotten what [Hamas] did to us and what they are planning to do to us in the future. . . . We have seen what they are capable of doing, so we are determined to stand strong and proud.” The ACLJ was built for this moment. We will defend Israel when no one else will. We’ve argued directly before the ICC to defend Israel’s interests before – and won. We are mobilizing our legal team to prepare arguments to defend Israel yet again before the International Criminal Court. We will never stop defending our ally. Students from at least 24 universities across the United States have now joined the movement, which began at Columbia University in New York City last week, calling for universities to cut financial ties to Israel and divest from companies that enable its war in Gaza. Although some students have been rather clear in their demands, others are just supporting the cause. Yet, despite the protesters having been largely peaceful, they have been met by a heavy-handed response. In just a week, more than 100 protesters were arrested at Columbia, 133 at New York University, 40 at Yale University, and over 100 at the University of Texas and University of Southern California. Texas governor Greg Abbott said the demonstrators ‘belong in jail’ and all participating students should be expelled, while US House Speaker Mike Johnson called for the National Guard to be deployed on protesting campuses. Landkeepers Society is receiving support from Cowichan Farmers who "Slow Roll" a Convoy of Tractors by the offices of the Cowichan Valley Regional District in protest. Nature Trust is requesting the CVRD to forward their application to the Agricultural Land Commission for a change of use of the land in the Cowichan Estuary currently being farmed to produce livestock feed. The Landkeepers Society https://www.landkeeperssociety.com/, COAP (Citizens Oversight and Accountability Project https://coap.ca/ ), and concerned farmers and citizens attended the meeting and provided feedback to the CVRD as to the discoveries they've made during the process that has ensued since the project proposal was revealed June 8th 2023 in the Citizen (local paper) as to why this project should not proceed. There were also some present who spoke in support of the project but predominantly the attendees were speaking against it. The Nature Trust proposed project lacked in consultation with the public and adjacent landowners. If the project is approved, approximately 170 acres of uniquely productive farmland will be flooded because of the removal of dykes that Nature Trust is currently responsible for maintaining (a financial commitment they will be relieved of if the project is approved... which they will be funded for...hmm!) resulting in the flooding of the farmland with salt waters contaminated with the unaddressed sewage outflow from the municipality which could affect local freshwater wells and aquifers as indicated by the independent hydrology report paid for by the Landkeepers Society. A question I ask folks interviewing is whether there are direct linkages already discovered between this seemingly local and singular issue ...and the worldwide phenomenon of Farmer Protest. The details of those linkages don't become crystal clear but there do seem to be obvious connections such as ballooning general inflation, fuel prices, Canada's carbon tax, proposed fertilizer restrictions, increased property tax, registering of private wells and increased regulations across the board. So while this particular issue appears somewhat unique to the Cowichan Estuary, the parallels across the world are obvious. The United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Twenty-First Century is getting people's attention and Tractors have started rolling here. (As a side note, a recent poster has been anonymously revealed indicating Feb. 24th to be a nation-wide tractor protest in Canada naming multiple major cities) So...the tractors rolled in support of the Landkeepers Society ...AND... they have other reasons for showing up as well. Bolsonaro had called for the Sao Paulo protest amid allegations he plotted to stage a coup in 2022 after he lost power to Lula in an election. Bolsonaro on Sunday denied all of the allegations against him and said he was being "persecuted.” He also called for amnesty against those arrested in rioting that took place on Jan. 8, 2023, after Lula took power. "A coup is putting tanks on the streets, weapons, conspiracy. That did not happen in Brazil," Bolsonaro said. "What I want is pacification. To erase the past and find a way for us to live in peace,” he said. Bolsonaro attacked Lula’s recent remarks attacking Israel as "criminal." Earlier this month, Lula launched a diplomatic rift with Israel by rebuking Israel that he delivered at the African Union Summit, according to The New York Times. “What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people has no parallel in other historical moments,” he said, before adding, “it did exist when Hitler decided to kill the Jews.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the comments “shameful” and said Lula “crossed a red line,” according to the Times of Israel. The goal of the rally Sunday appeared to be to show Bolsonaro still holds political clout, Reuters said. ATHENS, Greece (AP) – Scores of bright-colored tractors were parked outside Greece’s parliament Tuesday, horns blaring, as thousands of farmers angry at high production costs shifted their protests to Athens. “Without us, you don´t eat,” one banner said. Some farmers carried mock coffins and funeral garlands as symbols of their plight. The farmers – whose demands are similar to those at farmer protests elsewhere in Europe – have spent weeks staging sporadic blockades along highways and in rural towns. Farmers in central Greece are also still reeling from major floods last year. The center-right government has expressed sympathy with the farmers but said budgetary constraints prevent it from meeting all their demands, beyond substantial electricity cost reductions. Protesters say that’s not enough. They want tax-free fuel, debt forgiveness, measures against foreign competition and speedier compensation for damage from natural disasters. Farmers also criticize the substantial markup in shelf prices compared to what wholesalers pay them for their produce. Manolis Liakis, a farmer from the southern island of Crete, singled out fuel costs. He said farmers pay more than three times as much for petrol as shipping companies due to tax disparities. “We can´t be producing and (selling) our products for ridiculously low prices while the consumer buys them at extremely high prices,” he said. The rally ended peacefully. Some farmers planned to stay outside parliament all night and leave with their tractors Wednesday. In a show of solidarity, hundreds of students joined the farmers and protested government plans to end the state monopoly on university education. The government took back a previous threat to block Tuesday´s protest. Police were deployed to help divert highway traffic, and much of central Athens was blocked to motorists and public transport. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a television interview Monday said he could not support additional tax breaks and concessions but wanted to continue discussions with protesters.
