Ah, pets, they make it so easy to love them. Their pure souls and innocent actions bring out the best in us. Although sometimes we need to clean up after them and it isn’t always pretty, it is all forgotten once they come to us for a few scratches behind the ears. Baby pets, though, are an entire league of their own. They can make us pull our hair out of its roots at one moment, and then render us into a pile of mush in the next. It takes a while for them to find their place in this world but through a lot of trial and error, they would eventually get there. If there is one thing that can help them a lot through this tough period in life, it’s the assistance of an elder. They can play with them and humor them while teaching them the ways of life.

In this particular video we have the start of a great friendship, albeit a bit strange one at that. It just goes to show us that not every rule in nature is set in stone. We might think that cats and dogs aren’t meant to be the best of friends, but just take a look at these two. Jack the cat and Ellie the Great Dane love to play together. Watch and laugh as Jack chases Ellie and then makes it very clear that Ellie needs to understand that cats rule!

It might seem like Ellie and Jack don’t really get along that well, but the truth is they are actually really good pals! Sure, Jack isn’t really all that interested in playing with the big pooch, while she is up to no good most of the time. But, for what it’s worth, they love and respect each other as equal members of this household. Still, that does not stop Ellie from using every ace up her sleeve in an attempt, albeit in vain, to coerce the orange tabby into playing with her.

The cat, not so surprisingly, acts like the big, black dog is just another nuisance that will go away on its own. He lounges on the piano stool, wags his tail in annoyance and keeps a close eye on his friend. You know, in case she decides to pounce on him like he does on her sometimes. Poor Ellie even tries to show off her stuffed toy, hoping that the tom will change his mind! Oh, lookie there, that didn’t work either.

Probably inspired by his buddy’s attempt at coercing some play time, Jack tried to do the same to Ellie at one point. Only he didn’t really want to play with the dog. He just wanted to tease her with her own toy. That’s right; the cat stole Ellie’s toy and now he is mocking her with his stealth skills. Poor Ellie could never pull off a feat like that.
