This headlamp from LETOUR has a premium feel and a robust build quality that many rivals lack, which belies the bargain price and it also has a feature which is unusual for a headlight in this price range.

The item arrived unboxed but in a plain semi-rigid storage case. In the case were just the head torch and USB charging cable. No user guide was included, which is a pity, and the lack of external packaging reduces the appeal of the item as a gift, but no matter.

The headlight has a robust detachable elasticated headband with an adjustable buckle which feels well made and built to last. Facing forward
are the three LED lights, a large white LED in the centre with two smaller red ones on either side. There are two buttons above, the right one scrolls through the 5 lighting modes and the other turns the white light off and on and enables the gesture control mode. On top is the gromett protected micro-USB charging port. The whole light unit can be angled downwards up to 60° with five click stop stages.

Operating the light is simple enough. Press the right hand power button to turn the main light on and scroll through High, Low, Strobe, Red, Red strobe. Short press again to turn it off.

To use the motion detection gesture control feature, press the left side button to turn the white on which you can now switch off and onby waving your hand 10-15 cm in front of the light. Take note that the motion sensor cannot be used to select the operating mode, which has to be done using the power button. Having a separate button for the motion detector mode sense and makes sure the light cannot be turned off in error.

The torch has a 1000 mAh Lithium battery which is charged through the Micro-USB port on the top of the unit. The LED status light confirms charging is taking place with a full charge from flat taking around six hours and giving 5 - 8 hours of sustained use depending on the mode used.

In use, the head torch feels light and comfortable and is easy to operate with the Motion Detection control being very much more useful than I expected since it is reliable in use and frees up both hands. Many head torches require both hands to use, one to operate the button and the other to steady the band. The light is powerful with a good steady beam, although I find I only need to use the white light options.

For the current low price, this is certainly one to consider if you need a decent quality light for running, nighttime sports or garage work.
