With humans, it can be a little complicated; we just can’t make up our minds sometimes! With animals, however, it is far simpler. Dogs love their kibble, the treats they are given when they have been nice and the occasional Frisbee tossed in the park. Cats are even simpler still - they love watching birds chirp through the window, they love their bed and they just can’t seem to get enough of that shining green dot that just won’t hold still!

We haven’t had the pleasure of seeing what birds love in life to keep them happy, until now. This Major Mitchell Cockatoo, called Sammy, is a permanent resident at Kaarakin, The Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre in Perth, Australia. He seems to be fully captivated by the makeshift Ferris wheel that his caretakers have made for him, riding it in circles for long period of time.

“His parents were rescued after being injured but weren’t able to be released, so he was born in captivity and has been spinning on this wheel for all of his 12 years." It is a love story a dozen years in the making and still going strong, apparently!

The Black Cockatoo Preservation Society is a not-for-profit, independent conservation organisation working to conserve black cockatoos through the rehabilitation, revegetation, education, and research.

The cockatoo belongs to a family of medium-sized parrots, which generally communicate with one another by vocalizing in a really loud, annoying squawk. Also, cockatoos, like other parrots, can mimic the sounds they hear in their environment.

These birds have been exposed to strange sounds beyond those of their natural habitat. The viral barking bird, in particular, seems to have either been hanging out with dogs or listening to a whole lot of DMX.
