Celebrating Our Freedom in Christ

Here, in the United States, we are approaching our celebration of freedom as a nation on the 4th of July. As believers in Christ, everyday is a celebration of freedom!

>> In Christ, we are free from the cares of this world.
Our Heavenly Father promises to take care of us as Jesus tells us in Matthew 6, starting in verse 25:

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

We continue in verse 31,

"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

>> In Christ, we are free from guilt and shame.
Upon repentance, our sins are forgiven and forgotten as far as the east is from the west.

We read in ‭1 John 1:9,
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

And David, who knew firsthand God’s great mercy and forgiveness of sins, shares in ‭Psalms 103:10-12,

"He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."

>> In Christ, we are free from darkness, depression, and sadness.
He has overcome the darkness and His light shines in us as we read in John 1:4-5.

Jesus tells us in ‭John 8:12,

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

In ‭Psalms 18:28, David shares that the Lord “turns our darkness into light”.

With the Lord as our light, our salvation and our stronghold, we have no need to be fearful or afraid as we read in Psalms 27:1. Because He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world as John reassures us in 1 John 4:4,

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

>> In Christ, we are free from death.
We are made alive in Christ and have been promised eternal life as Apostle Paul teaches in Colossians 2:13-14,

"When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross."

And we read in ‭Romans 8:1-2,

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

Jesus reassures us of this promise in ‭John 11:25-26,

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."

>> In Christ, we are free from fear of outcomes in life such as illness, disease, persecution, and war.
Let us rejoice in these encouraging words in Romans 8:35-39,

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ...No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

No matter what we face in life, we are already victorious with the freedom we have in Christ. With the seal of the Holy Spirit, we are guaranteed to be at God's side for eternity and nothing can stop that... as we read in ‭1 Thessalonians 5:23-24,

"May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it."

With all of these promises by the One who is eternally faithful, we can celebrate the freedom we have in Christ each and every day as we await His glorious return!

Freedom from the cares of this world…
freedom from guilt and shame…
freedom from darkness, depression, and sadness…
freedom from death…
and freedom from fear.

Praise God for the freedom we have been given in our Savior, Jesus Christ!
