The FBI has launches an investigation inton the cyber hack, after 15,000 car dealers across the US are cyberattacked. Now the hackers wants millions to release the information.

A significant amount of car dealerships across the US are being impacted by a large-scale cyberattack, resulting in operational disruptions. Paul Fix explains more in this news story.

CDK Global, a week after being struck by two cyberattacks, told its dealerships it doesn’t expect to restore all systems before July 1, despite “making significant progress.” “We do feel it is important to share that we do not believe that we will be able to get all dealers live prior to June 30. Should you need to make alternate plans for your month-end financial close process, you should do so,” the company said in a customer update emailed on June 25.

The cyberattack, which began yesterday and is still ongoing, impacted popular software provider CDK Global, which provides over 15,000 dealerships in the United States with software to manage vehicle acquisitions, payroll, sales, financing, insuring, repairs, and maintenance. CDK said they chose to shut down all systems on Wednesday to mitigate further risk as a precaution.

Following this statement, 2 hours later, the company faced another attack. The FBI is investigating, and it is currently unknown who or what group is behind the cyberattack.

Sales people service department are hugely impacted. They can’t sell any cars, only make deposits. Getting your car serviced will also be an issue.

Car builders and banks have terminated the connection to CDK servers for all of them and are creating alternatives for employees to contact customers. We can’t imagine how much money has been lost because of this attack and ransomware.
