7 People Committed Suicide in the Bible - Ravi Chandran

This time, Ravi shares a message entitled “Suicide and the Bible.” This is a difficult topic to touch, as it is very sensitive. For those who have had known someone who have committed suicide, the emotional scars of that incident can be long term. For those who are not affected by suicide in one way or another, it will be good to be educated on the topic.

The bible actually talks about 7 different cases of people who had committed suicide. The situations and circumstances of each is different. While it is easy to theologically conclude that suicide is equivalent to murder of oneself or sin, what will become of the soul of such a person? This boils down to the fundamental believe as to what constitutes salvation, how does one get saved, and who is the author of life and death.

Without being humanistic nor dogmatic, we must talk about suicide in light of God’s Word and Spirit behind that wisdom. A matter closely associated to this is euthanasia. More and more countries in the world are now legalizing euthanasia especially for those terminally ill. Does legality equate to morality let alone Scriptural? How should a believer respond to these critical issues, and are there dogmatic black and white answers from Scriptures?
