Acts - Chapter 11 Summary:

Acts chapter 11 describes the aftermath of Peter's encounter with Cornelius and the spread of the Gospel to the Gentiles. When Peter returns to Jerusalem, he faces criticism from Jewish believers for associating with Gentiles. Peter recounts his vision of the sheet with unclean animals and the Holy Spirit's direction to go to Cornelius' house. He explains how the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles just as it had on the Jewish believers at Pentecost, affirming that God does not show favoritism. This testimony convinces the Jerusalem believers, who praise God for granting repentance that leads to life even to the Gentiles. The chapter also describes the spread of the Gospel to Antioch, where believers first receive the name "Christians." Barnabas is sent to encourage the new converts, and he brings Saul (Paul) from Tarsus to help teach. The church in Antioch grows and demonstrates its solidarity with the Jerusalem church by sending relief during a famine.
