Description
Lava Grit from Eifel Primordial Rock is the highest-quality lava grit available on the market. It is a soil conditioner with the highest concentration of minerals and the best processing properties. Lava Grit from Eifel Primordial Rock is versatile and ideal for spreading or mixing. It is widely used in gardens as a soil conditioner and is excellent for protecting plants, such as boxwood, from pests. Additionally, this mineral and trace element-rich lava grit has an indirect effect against horsetail and other weeds.

Lava Grit has a high pore volume and improves soil conditions in compacted soils. It enhances the structure, water and air balance, root permeability, and available minerals in the soil. Lava Grit is frequently and successfully used in gardens, agriculture, sports fields, forestry, and nurseries.

The volcanic rock is rich in silicon, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and trace elements. These nutrients are gradually released through weathering and are not leached from the soil. The silicon content in the leaves significantly increases after using Lava Grit from Eifel Primordial Rock within one season. Silicon enhances the plant’s resistance to drought, diseases, and pests.

Lava Grit from Eifel Primordial Rock improves soil structure and stabilizes humus. Together with organic matter and soil organisms, it forms stable clay-humus complexes and soil aggregates. Clay soils become looser, allowing better water drainage, while sandy soils can retain nutrients and water more effectively. Peat soils are stabilized against degradation.

Lava Grit can loosen compacted soils
Lava Grit is ideal for mixing into potting soil or loosening heavy clay soils. Heavier soils become easier to work with when enriched with Lava Grit, and due to its porous nature, it can retain water and nutrients (24-28%).

Short-term and long-term effects
Lava Grit from Eifel Primordial Rock consists of fine powder combined with coarser particles that break down over an extended period. The presence of fine particles leads to rapid results and a large surface area for action. The larger particles slowly degrade over time (years), providing stable availability and achieving long-term effects.

Background
Intensive use constantly puts pressure on the quality of our soils. The decades-long one-sided use of artificial fertilizers with limited elements damages the soil. The mineral fertility declines, and the soil’s humus content, structure, and disease resistance deteriorate. As a result, plants become less resistant, and our food contains fewer essential minerals and trace elements. The mere application of artificial fertilizers, lime, and organic matter seems insufficient to achieve sustainable soil recovery. The use of rock powder as a natural source of minerals to enhance soil fertility has long been known but was overshadowed by the focus on modern synthetic fertilizers. Since 2009, Organifer has been dedicated to the use of Lava Grit for the sustainable restoration of soil quality.
