John 12:24 says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit." In this verse, Jesus uses an agricultural metaphor to explain the necessity of His impending death. Just as a grain of wheat must die to produce a fruitful harvest, Jesus' sacrificial death will result in the salvation of many. This principle of dying to produce life also applies to us. True life and happiness come through dying to self, sinful desires, and worldly attachments, and being transformed through Christ. Die to self, and allow Christ to live through you, bringing forth "much fruit."
