Moment shark forces beach closure

Don’t go in the water. Not this particular bit of water, at least. A giant, three-meter-long hammerhead shark caused one of the Mediterranean’s most popular holiday hotspots to close after it started swimming about the beach and terrifying the locals. The shark made its first invasion at Melenara Beach in Telde, Gran Canaria, where it swam right up to the shore, fin bursting proudly out of the water’s surface like something out of a Jaws movie (assuming Jaws was about a hammerhead shark, and not a dodgy puppet). Vacationers looked out on the scene as if to say ‘yup, that’s a shark alright,’ then, once it had sunk in that, yup, that was a shark alright, they immediately phoned the shark police (who, it turns out, are also the regular police).

Immediately the beach was cordoned off as police hunted for the shark, however, the shark was nowhere to be found on the beach, partly because sharks live in the water. The shark had taken advantage of the commotion, however, to invade the nearby Salinetas Beach, where its fin once again put the willies up the beachgoers. Police conducted an extensive search on jetskis, but failed to apprehend the shark, although they later spotted it with a drone, where its status was upgraded to ‘we’re going to need a bigger boat.’

The beaches will remain closed while the shark remains at large.
