Russia’s military is testing a new heavy transport drone, capable of carrying a person with ease. Footage released by the Defense Ministry on Monday shows the ‘Perun’ drone in action, carrying an armed soldier on a wire, in a manner similar to a helicopter.

The Perun, named after the Slavic god of thunder, can carry a 200kg payload, and uses domestically-produced software. A different model of the drone was also shown, with an anti-tank missile mounted on top.

It is hoped that the Perun can be used to carry out medical evacuations, as well as transporting small commando teams for surprise attacks. Tests with a machine gun and an air-launched rocket are also planned, with the intent to use the drone as a weapons platform.
